The other day, I met Alison Carton. As a young adult and after much trial and error, she cured her own acne. Now her company, Clarisea, makes scrubs and body and face soaks for anyone suffering from face and body breakouts. Another salicylic acid solution? No way. Alison’s solution is to take a dip.
Why is it that a swim in the sea miraculously clears up your skin? The answer lies in the minerals in sea water that are the same as those in your own skin and they work with your pH balance to purify and cleanse. Clarisea’s products are based on salt because sodium chloride is a natural exfoliant that flushes out impurities and kills surface bacteria.
Being a sucker for body scrubs, I’ve been trying out the Salt Scrub. It is a refreshingly simple concoction of glycerin, salt and seaweed extract. The whiff of eucalyptus provides an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. However the face and body soaks really stick to their knitting. They are basically salt with more salt (mineral salt, that is – don’t go mistaking this for the stuff in your kitchen).
Soak is the operative word. Alison advises remaining under water for ten minutes (using a snorkel if necessary) when using the face and body treatment. For soaking the face alone, she provides a special bowl for two minute soaks in luke warm water.
In addition, the range includes a kaolin mask and a facial scrub with macadamia. Kaolin is drying to reduce sebum production as well as increasing circulation. Macadamia keeps the skin hydrated. Unfortunately, both the mask and scrub have the usual suspects, but don’t confuse arachidyl alcohol for drying alcohol; it is a waxy substance from fatty acids.
If your zits have you at your wits end and you’d like to try Alison’s salt cure, we’ll send you the face soak (complete with special bowl), the body and face soak, facial scrub and mask. All you have to do is write back telling us how you got on. Leave a comment below if you want to be selected.

I would love to have my daughter try this product. She has tried everything to keep her acne under control. Obagi, prescription products, murad and the list goes on. She is so frustrated and it would be great to finally find something that works. She is 21 and a senior in college. Please consider her as a good candidate for this product.
Thanks
I am willing to try it! Send me an email.
I would love to try this product. I have moderately bad acne, but as you mentioned, it always seems to clear up after I go swimming in salt water. I never knew why, but now that I do, I wish I lived nearer to the ocean!
I’m 30 years old and still breaking out like a 15 year old. I was put on Accutane when I was 17: my face was clear but there was tons of side effects. My acne mysteriously cleared up in my early 20’s. When I got pregnant, my belly grew and so did my acne…again. My child is now 3 and my face has not cleared up. I’m tired of the acne rollercoaster! Help!
I just turned 46 last week and have more acne breakouts now than when I was a teenager. Nothing seems to help. I would love to be considered as a candidate for Clarisea.
I am 28 years old and since the age of 12 I have been suffering one form of acne or another. When I was a teenager I had a lot of bumps and blackheads on my forehead and chin. My cheeks were clear as clear can be and when I turned 19 and my tzone acne began to dissipate I thought I was in the clear.
I was SO wrong. Now I suffer from bumps (closed comedones) all over my cheeks. Mixed with minor scarring on my chin and forehead from my teenage acne, my face is less than pretty in direct light (especially when that lighting hits my face from the side). I have tried everything short of prescriptions. I have used harsh chemicals, organics, murad, proactive and basically everything Sephora has had to offer. I buy non-comedogenic makeup (hint: if you suffer from the closed comedones, mineral makeup will make you breakout terribly..the type of acne-prone skin its beneficial for is actually inflamed acne) and have probably spent thousands in the course of 5 years. Philosophy’s line has given my face SOME relief (turns out I have very supple, pretty skin underneath all the problems) but I can’t find a complete solution. Living on the Jersey shore and having a dad whose always owned a boat, I welcome summers because my skin not only clears up from the sun (I know, bad bad approach, does more harm than good) but from the ocean water as well. In the past, I have resorted to filling up poland spring bottles with ocean water, bringing them home and attempting to wash my face with it. It was inconvenient, messy and pretty drying. So, when I read about these products I thought “Perfect! I’d love to try something that’s a little more geared towards skincare health but still has the same basic idea behind the ocean water.”
So, if you haven’t selected anyone yet, I’d love to be considered! After all these years, I am willing to try pretty much anything! I work as a nanny and a waitress and I don’t have insurance and I really can’t afford regular dermatologist visits, so I am kind of on my own when it comes to my skin.
I would love to try the product. I am over 50, and for the last 2 years I have had weird bumps on my face, mostly on the cheeks. Each has a hard, grain of sand sized “grain” in it. Once in a while they flair up, and become a problem, sometimes leading to blood build up under the skin in that area. When it calms down, the annoying “grain” has receded, but is still in there. yes, when I go swimming in the ocean, which is infrequent, my skin is great for a while. I have sensitive skin and allergies. I can use some Origins makeup just fine, but their skin care line really does not do much. A few other lines, with Vit C help. I would love to try this product.
I’ve been looking into trying a new skincare regimen and Clarisea looks promising from all the things I’ve been reading about it. I’d love to try it!
I’ve always thought that after my 20s, my skin would stop breaking out. Sigh. There’s a billion different concoctions out there, but I do appreciate that this one is all natural.
I would love to try Clarisea. I have tried everything else for the past 19 years and truly feel I’m at my wits end!
I would like you to consider having my daughter try this product. We have tried both over the counter and prescribed treatments and nothing has improved her back, chest or face acne. I will give you significant feedback on the proctuct.
If you are still looking for someone to try the Clarisea acne treatment, I would love to try it.
I have very sensitive skin and allergic to most acne products. I get the cyst type acne that is hard and painful. I have some scaring on my chin and alittle rosacea around my nose. I am 45 and have tried everything over the years . I would love to give this a try.
I would also love to try Clarisea! I’m 22 years old and I’ve been struggling with acne for 7 years now. I’m ready to try something new! Thank you!
I would love to try it if you’re still looking for someone. I’m 22 and I’ve been suffering from acne since I was 11. Imagine just entering middle school, the age of the mean/judgmental kids who don’t know how to shut up, and you start getting breakouts. It’s seriously emotionally scarring. It started out focused on my forehead then moved into the T-zone. When I was a junior in high school, I started breaking out all over mm face, back and chest. I tried almost everything: Clean & Clear, ProActiv, Murad, Neutrogena, Clearasil, Oripan, prescription topicals/creams/pills, and basically all the other OTC products. I’m going to graduate in 6 months, it would be nice to do it with a clear face, and enter the “real world” with my head held high.
This product sounds very promising. I’m 32 and live in a very dry environment and have been trying everything. I’d like to try it if it is still available.
I am 45 years old and I have the same moderate to severe that I had when I was 15. I live in the humid southeast which dosen’t help. I would love to try the Clarisea.
I’m 49 – what is it with us “young” older women and acne? I, too, relished summer vacations at the beach, far away from my midwestern home! If you are still looking for trials, I’d be interested in trying it.
I have tried my own kitchen salt therapies in the past….since I knew that the beach did wonders for my acne. I am 46 and have fought acne since pregnancy 15 years ago! I would love to try clarisea….when can I get it, please!
I’m 38 years old and have used everything including Accutane. Now I not only have face acne but have developed acne on my back and chest. I would love to try clarisea. I am desperate to try anything that might work. Thank you.
Could Clarisea really be the answer? I feel like I have tried everything. I try to use all natural and organic skincare and haven’t found anything that works. Most products actually make my face worse, go figure. I have been looking into natural hot springs and how they clear up your skin, this seems to be along those lines. I am willing to try anything. I’m 28, been breaking out since I turned 20.
