Summer may have been officially snuffed out, but there is no reason for your sun-kissed glow to meet the same fate. With the right sunless tanner, you’ll look healthy, feel confident, conceal complexion inconsistencies, and may even soak up skin-conditioning and antioxidant benefits if the formula is smart. A bonus of achieving a head-to-toe tan is cursorily camouflaging cellulite (not that you have any, but you know, just in case). After scouring the self-tanning universe for something that meets our lofty criteria, we’ve settled on five products to represent the very best in the category, based on formula, fragrance, and performance. From Aviva Organics’ mostly organic Face and Body Creme to Xen-Tan’s paraben-free Transform Gradual Self Tan, the ingredients are overall outstanding and the experience of using these products is surprisingly pleasant. Click on the images below for full details of each product.

I have been using Famous Dave’s self tanner for many years now. It is the best! I am in my late 40’s and do not like to expose my skin to the damaging rays of the sun. This product gives me a very natural looking tan with no “orangeness” or other weird fake coloring some of the self tanners can. It doesn’t stain my undergarments or clothing and it dries very quickly. I have turned my sisters and friends into faithful users of this brand. I just cannot say enough great things about it.
That is nice to now finally find a site where the blogger knows what they are talking about.
Perhaps someone can direct me in the right direction for choosing a sunless tanner for the color I’m looking for. I’ve tried Famous Dave’s moisture tan, but it seems to come out a bit too brown for me. Also, it seem to scrub off when I shower, and leaves some streaks. Otherwise, it’s not bad. I’m mostly Asian, with light-medium skintone, moreso light brownish rather than extremely white like some Asians. I’m looking for more of a Golden glow (but not too orangey), and read that Aviva Organics, Bliss a Tan, and Kona gradual tanner all give a natural looking golden glow rather than an orangey or brownish one. I like the idea of the spray tan, but not sure if it will deliver a golden glow or a deepening brown like Dave’s. Does anyone know which one would best match my skin tone, or at least the tone I’m looking for? Thank you.
Me again! Any thought of doing a follow up self-tanning column (I am particularly interested in the facial products) now that spring MIGHT be approaching?!
Also, if I were to use Xen Ten face tanner in place of tinted moisturizer during the day (at even at night), should I omit using Hydro peptide serum or the CE Ferulic serum? Any interactions that I should avoid?
Thanks much!
