Vita-K Solutions for age spots with Matrixyl 3000
Whilst in Walgreens the other day, I found a lonely box of Vita-K Solutions for age spots ($14.99). There were no other representatives of the Vita-K brand, which is a pity because they sensibly target their potions to conditions: dark circles, spider veins, even blotchy skin. However, the age spot cream was making a valiant stand: where else would you find Matrixyl 3000 for less than fifteen bucks?
Vita-K is nothing if not confident. It claims that results will be seen with the first application. I am on my second application. Maybe…. I am testing it on my right hand where I have a dark freckle. Perhaps it is a little fainter, but I’m not sure I trust myself to eliminate wishful thinking and the directions advise using it twice a day for four to six weeks. I think I’ll reserve judgment for a few weeks.
In the meantime, this is really a very good product for the price. As I said, there is the powerhouse of a peptide, Matrixyl 3000, as well as Vita-K’s signature vitamin K and licorice root extract. The only thing is that while Matrixyl may prevent future hyperpigmentation and research indicates that it smooths out existing wrinkles, there’s no evidence that it will fade existing age spots. Vitamin K helps with bruising and dark under eye circles, but here again I haven’t been able to trace a link to fading age spots. Dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline is another peptide that tackles wrinkles, supposedly performing better than vitamin C. But it too doesn’t have a pedigree as a whitener . Licorice root, on the other hand, does seem to be a proven brightener – studies suggest it may inhibit the skin’s tyrosinase activity and melanin production.
Vita-K Solutions for age spots has some silicone, a few potential irritants (acrylates copolymer, propylene glycol) and some of the usual suspects in the preservative department. However, if this actually works, it will qualify as one of the bargains of the year. I’ll report back at the end of the month.

Has the Vita-K been working for you? I have a lot of age spots on the backs of my hands; rotating glycolic acid and Skinceuticals CE Ferulic acid has shown a tiny lightening of the age spots after a couple of months, but they are still quite noticeable.

Ultimately, I don’t think Vita-K did much for me at all. Still looking for a good fader.
I just started using this product on the freckles on the backs of my hands. After less than a week’s use, I see a difference. They are definitely lighter.
