Since 1968, Clinique has produced iconic makeup, fragrance, and face care products, most notably the 3-step skincare system.
Through the collaboration of beauty editor Carol Phillips, Dr. Norman Orentriech, and Estee Lauder, Clinique was founded on the philosophy: “Great skin can be created.”
The line premiered as the world’s first hypoallergenic, fragrance-free line at Saks Fifth Avenue and is today available in department stores in over 130 countries worldwide.
Clinique not only formulates without allergens, but it also allergy-tests every product 12 times on 600 people and reformulates if a single application out of those 7200 incites an adverse reaction.

In 2008, Clinique announced a partnership with Allergan to unveil a new line called Clinique Medical, a five-product set available exclusively in physicians’ offices, designed for pre- and post- operation skin care.
The brand recently launched Vitamin C Lip Smoothie, an antioxidant-rich lip gloss.
Clinique’s new Acne Solutions Clearing Concealer is medicated to help clear and prevent blemishes.
The new Almost Bronzer SPF 15 is a versatile bronzing duo that contains broad spectrum sun protection and allows for a gradual bronzing effect, while the new Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder conceals visible redness and broken capillaries.

TIA’s Take:
As is often the case with conventional cosmetics sold at department store counters, Clinique relies on run of the mill ingredients that confer little benefits other than not making your skin break out. While the popular Liquid Facial Soap contains harmful sodium laureth sulfate, the standard Clinique roll-on deodorant has a 20% concentration of potentially carcinogenic aluminum. Clinique’s signature Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion sports a second-rate formula: purified water, mineral oil, sesame oil, propylene glycol, tea stearate, glyceryl stearate, lanolin alcohol, petrolatum, methylparaben and propylparaben. Even if these ingredients have passed multiple allergy tests, they raise health concerns for breast cancer, liver abnormalities, and kidney damage. Nonetheless, Clinique appears to be making steps in the right direction with its De-Aging range, and there are gems buried within the mass of mediocre. Bursting at the seams with antioxidants, botanicals, and peptides, the CX C15 De-Aging Clarity formula is a far cry from Dramatically Different. According to ingredients listed by the Environmental Working Group, Clinique’s best skincare products based on safety ratings are Repairwear Intensive Night Cream, Regular Strength Face Soap, and Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam.
