We have two new products from Dermophisiologique: the Xomega body cream ($79.29) and Optyma Lip ($19.89).

The first thing to love about Xomega is the texture. It is really silky, thick enough to imply that it is going to be deeply moisturizing and absorbs quickly. As the name might imply, omegas 3 and 6 (olive and soy oils) feature strongly in Xomega. There are also a few of my newly found favorite ingredients, especially hydrolyzed glycosaminoglycans, which bind with water efficiently and increase depth hydration, improving the elasticity and firmness of the skin. The handful of botanicals include black currant seed oil, which promotes healthy cell respiration and stimulates microcirculation, and borage oil, with proven antaging effects. Borage is one of the richest known source of the essential fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Fatty acids such as GLA serve as essential components to the structure, elasticity and lipid barrier of the epidermis, and borage oil is believed to help retain moisture and revitalize the skin.

I am not sure whether Mr Aubrey intended his Rosa Mosqueta Moisturizing Cream ($13.49) to be a face or a body cream. Probably, he is agnostic. I find this moisturizer much too rich for my face, even though my skin is a little dry right now. However, my body really likes it and especially dry areas, such as the elbows, just soak it right up. This joins Aubrey’s shampooshair conditioners and even the shave cream as great examples of good ingredients (although not all of them are actually organic) at an even better price.

I would guess that one reason why Aubrey’s products are inexpensive is because they all seem to leverage the same basic ingredients. This Moisturizing Cream’s ingredients list looks a lot like the first half of the list for the Rosa Mosqueta hair conditioner.

My hands are thoroughly neglected. I am really bad about regular manicures, and worse about wearing gloves or even keeping them moisturized during the cold months. But they say hands can really reveal your age, so I knew I needed to step it up – at least as a preventative measure.

That, and well that dry, scaly feeling I would experience as I began to type my work just didn’t feel pretty.

I expressed my grievances to Marta, and she handed me a tube of Hissy Fit’s Handy Work and Rilastil Intensive hand lotions to test out. I began using Hissy Fit on my right and Rilastil (an Italian brand that recently came to the US via the newly made over Duane Reade drugstores) on my left to see if any initial differences would pop out at me.

In a world of increasing cosmetic complexity, it is refreshing to find something that is so simple. Amikole’s body butter is shea and chocolate and that’s it. You could almost eat it. In any case, your skin will just lap this up. Shea is a fantastic moisturizer and skin soother and chocolate is an important antioxidant and even a natural sunscreen.

Researchers in Germany, reported that women drinking cocoa had 15% less skin reddening from UV light after six weeks of cocoa consumtion and 25% less after 12 weeks of the trial. After 12 weeks, the women’s skin was 16% denser, 11% moisture, 30% less rough, and 42% less scaly than it was at the beginning of the experiment.

I am determined to treat my body with the care and attention that I have, in the last few years, been giving to my face. The mission is a little harder since really good bodycare products are only just coming on to the market. So I was very excited when the Italian company, Dermophisiologique, gave me several body lotions and anti-cellulite treatments to try out. I honed in on the Xomega body cream ($80) and after using it for the past week, I am very glad that I did.

The first thing to love is the texture. It is really silky, thick enough to imply that it is going to be deeply moisturizing and absorbs quickly. This is not one of those body lotions that you apply and then wonder how you are going to kill time before you can get dressed or risk getting grease-stained clothes. With Xomega you are immediately good to go. I was also pleased to find out that this body lotion is so well-behaved that it can even be used right after shaving (legs, that is).
