It’s the thought that counts, or so they say. Hallmark wants you to believe that a card will keep your Valentine happy. Godiva and Russell Stover probably couldn’t make it through the year without February 14th. But cards, candy, and flowers are so played out. This Valentine’s Day, think outside the heart-shaped box and surprise your loved one with something he or she can really use. We’ll make that easier for you with our picks for the Five Best gifts to spoil your sweetheart and show your creative side.

Ranging in price from $8 to $48, these gifts don’t require a huge commitment, but still send the message that your heart is committed. There are items that you can use together, such as massage oil or fizzy bath tablets. There are tools and treatments for staying soft and well-moisturized. And there is a brand-new hair care gadget by our favorite celebrity hairstylist. Each gift is equally useful for a male or female recipient. If you want to prove that you are truly an expert on pampering, also check our gift guide for the Five Best beauty products worth the splurge.

These days it seems as if my friends, family, and colleagues are getting pregnant en masse. There must be something in the water. Because it’s the first wave of my peers to experience the miracle of birth, I feel invested in the process. I have been researching the range of bodily changes they can expect and the sort of skincare products available to address them. Without a doubt, the most common cosmetic concern amongst new mothers is stretch marks. 75% to 90% of women develop them throughout pregnancy. As the skin expands to accommodate the growing fetus, it (more often than not) leaves behind lasting scars.

I was taught, “If you can’t find anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” That being said, I think what Clairee Belcher, the character played by Olympia Dukakis in the movie Steel Magnolias, had to say is much more appropriate now: “Well, you know what they say: if you don’t have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!”

My point is – I was one of the winners of the Bio Oil giveaway and the truth is I wasn’t that crazy about it.  I was really looking forward to experiencing the purported benefits, especially since I had just read about the wonders of olive oil and sesame oil for the face.  Much to my dismay, Bio Oil contains mineral oil. There was no way it would make it onto my facial skin!

In April I won the opportunity to try the Bio-Oil product (around $10), which I had been attracted to due to its multitasking assistance with: Scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, aging skin, dehydrated skin. I’ve got those issues, so you can see why I was interested in the product.

I’m particular with what I put on my skin as it is sensitive and problematic; I have eczema, anything too rich causes me to break out, and my skin is easily irritated. One reason why I love the TIA Web site is that many of the contributors also have sensitive skin; I’ve discovered many new favorite products through the reviews here.

I’ve been using the Bio-Oil product since the 2nd week of May for the following issues: stretch marks, discoloration and hyperpigmentation, dry skin, wrinkles. I chose not to use the product on my face for fear the oil would be too much for me so I chose problem areas on my body.

Modern science may have mastered the wrinkle and beaten baldness, but still there remains no “cure” for cellulite. Those deposits of fat that bulge outwards and create the appearance of dimpled skin are the result of anything from lifestyle and nutrition to genetics and hormones. Women seem more prone to developing cellulite because female fat cells, muscles, and skin are less flexible than those of a man. To conquer this biological inequity, we are willing to subject our bodies to ridiculously painful procedures (ie. Thermage) and shell out thousands for a lifetime of maintenance treatments (ie. Endermologie).

Instead, we could be whipping up a tasty cellulite solution in our own kitchens. Below you’ll find our photo gallery of a do-it-yourself coffee body scrub. Coffee is a common inclusion in anti-cellulite products because its high caffeine content has a dehydrating effect on fat cells, making the skin around them appear smoother and less dimpled. For the quick fix-inclined, this home remedy can aid in temporarily diminishing the appearance of cellulite. Alas, it will not deliver long-lasting results unless combined with adjusted diet and exercise.
