Reviva has turned out to be one of those reliable, reasonably priced brands that deliver department store and even spa experiences for the thrifty, but demanding (that would be us). Not only have we reviewed and recommended a clutch of Reviva’s products, but many of them are still in use in my bathroom. Take the Collagen Eye Pads.
This kit, which costs $37.69 at the TIA shop, comes with a 2oz bottle of Skin Energizing Gel that is applied around the eye area before positioning pre-soaked pads. The gel has ahnfeltia concinna extract, which has peptides that are thought to trigger a signal to the epidermal and dermal cells that a substantial breakdown of collagen has occurred. Just the thing before adding some replacement collagen. Enter the pads, which are applied over the gel, under the eye and up to the crow’s feet area. In addition to collagen, there is Myoxinol in the pads. Brilliant to perk you up before a night out and a must for the morning after the night before. Read more...

I was switched on to Reviva Labs by Copley and I was so impressed by the value for money of its Alpha Lipoic Acid Vitamin C Ester & DMAE Night Cream, which she billed as a low-cost (its $13!!!) alternative to Dr Perricone that I recommended it in an up coming interview for Woman’s Weekly magazine. So I was excited when Reviva got in touch to send some samples of brand new products, including the Collagen-Fibre Eye Pad Kit.
At around $38 for a kit (with the need to buy more pads down the line), this isn’t quite a bargain basement find. But as Copley figured when she brought up Dr Perricone, it depends what you compare it to. Part of my monthly facial with Ildi Pekar includes the positioning of collagen-filled pads under my eyes. So, if you compare it to a salon treatment, it could be a great buy. Assuming it works. Read more...

According to Olay, there are seven deadly signs that indicate aging eyes: dullness, skin tone, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles, dry skin, uneven texture, puffiness. As you would expect, they claim that Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream ($22.99) will eliminate all of them. And as you would expect, I suspected Olay of one of the seven deadly sins. Until I took a closer look…. and in the department of good buys, this isn’t at all bad.
What impressed me most is that niacinamide is one of the most dominant ingredients, after water and isohexadecane (an emollient). Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and a precurser of the co-enzymes NADH and NADPH. These enzymes are essential for cell energy production and lipid synthesis. Unfortunately, levels decline with age. Fortunately, niancinamide is proven to reverse that decline. However, there aren’t that many studies that demonstrate that it reverses signs of aging, with the exception of one conducted by Procter & Gamble (owners of Olay). Read more...

There is nothing like a presidential election for testing out an eye cream. We may have sent Palin with her bags packing back to Alaska, but my bags were threatening to be a permanent under-eye fixture when I stumbled into the new dawn of November 5 after only a few hours of sleep. Derma Radiant’s Ageless Eyes ($39) proved to be a winner.
The secret sauce in Ageless Eyes that sent my bags packing is something called Eyeliss. This is made up of hesperidin methyl chalcone, a flavonoid extracted from citrus fruits that helps reduce capillary permeability (so the little blood vessels around your eyes don’t leak) and a couple of peptides. Incidentally, you can, should you feel a DIY urge, buy Eyeliss neat and add it to a cream or serum of your choice. Read more...

If you apply the age-old adage, “You are what you eat,” to your skin, you might want to reconsider what you feed your face every day. A healthy diet is just as essential for your body as it is for your skin, which is permeable to cosmetic ingredients, both good and evil.* I have been doing my part to keep my eye area well-nourished with a steady diet of Be Fine Food Skin Care’s Eye Blossom.
This “Miracle Eye Serum” uses potent natural ingredients to put a lid on unappetizing under-eye shadows. Its fluid consistency carves a unique course between the cream and gel divide, moisturizing the eye area with a silky, lightweight layer of nutrients. Infused with a delightful cooling sensation and a refreshing cucumber scent, the serum fully absorbs into skin without the heft of a cream or the glean of a gel. One box of eye blossoms amounts to a month’s supply. Read more...
