I have been using the Your Best Face Prep ($80 in the TIA shop) for a month and I have to say I am very pleased with the results so far. I have used other exfoliates, but none have been as fine as Prep. My face feels absolutely smooth as a baby’s bottom. I have extremely sensitive skin and also use the Clarisonic facial brush. On the days I use the Prep I lay off the Clarisonic.  If I use both, my face is a bit red for a while and it can cause too much irritation.

I went for a facial two weeks ago and my esthtitician told me to keep using Prep in conjunction with the other products I use. I love the rather unique fragrance it has. It smells like a spa in a jar. A little goes a long way and for me using it 2x a week is enough.

Patti Collier signed the handwritten note that came with a package of her Veris skincare line “youthfully yours”.  Sweet. Ms Collier started Veris when she (and her brutally candid young daughter) started to notice her aging skin and after she had searched in vain for an anti-wrinkle alternative to fillers or Botox.

Until now, I hadn’t come across the Veris line with its three-step VeriSystem – cleanse & balance; repair & restore; protect & prevent.  The first thing that struck me is that Patti Collier’s aversion to fillers extends to her formulations. Her skincare line gets straight to the point, focusing on a refreshingly short list of ingredients, with the key actives taking, well, a key role.

A good example is the Red Tea Serum ($42), one of the step 3 protect & prevent products. It has purified water, hyaluronic acid, red tea extract, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexyglycerin. It doesn’t get more streamlined than that. Not to mention that I am always grateful when I can spell the first three ingredients in a potion.

At the end of last year, we put together our Five Best brands for 20-somethings and coming across it the other day I realized it was high time to do the same for the 30-somethings in the TIA community. Our resident 30-something Kim, has made some great endorsements recently and I am ever grateful to Copley for casting her net wide and deep and letting us in on her hits and misses.

This is the decade when prevention – not repair – is key. So however exciting growth factors or peptides seem to be, collagen and cellular repair may not yet be needed by 30-somethings. And may not be needed for a good long while to come if you get it right now with good botanical antioxidants. A key thing for 30-somethings seems to be skin brightening. This is the time when the complexion can start to look a little ashy and dull, so make sure you have the best cleansers and exfoliators you can afford. Perhaps you’ll find one amongst our Five Best brands for 30-somethings:

In mid-May, I received a bottle of Skin Perfection Eye Bright ($18.95) and Nutra-Lift Wrinkle Repair Ultra ($39) to take for a test drive and I arrived at the finish line with mixed results.

Skin Perfection is a brand that I’ve wanted to love since first reading about it on TIA.  It’s a reasonably-priced, anti-aging, organic product line that doesn’t contain harsh chemicals or parabens. The truth is, however, I hadn’t yet found a reason to love it.  I bought a number of their products including the Glycolic Cleanser, Clear Skin Hydrator and Moisturizing Mask and my skin did not react well to any of them.  I hoped the Eye Bright would be different.

Prevention Magazine has just held its annual Defy-Your-Age Beauty Awards. The winning list was picked from 35 products that had each been tested by five women aged over 40 for up to 8 weeks. A derm then analysed their skin with a Visia Complexion Analysis machine. The final picks were made by a team of judges made up of dermatologists. Read on for our take on Prevention’s Defy-Your-Age winners.
