First I would like to say how appreciative I am for having the opportunity to try kaplanMD’s Day Cream SPF15 and Replenishing Night Cream and to note that this role is more difficult then it may seem! Second, I’d like to apologize for the delayed response for which several things contributed:
1- The products happened to arrive while I was out of town for two weeks.
2- I originally wanted to give it a six week trial so I could provide as much info as possible for the wonderful TIA supporters, but after re-reading the interview with Dr. Stuart H. Kaplan during which he made clear that these products are not an “instant result” based line but rather “lifestyle products,” meant for long-term use to change the way our skin transitions, I felt even six weeks was not enough. I’ve been using two Kaplan MD products – the Perfecting Serum and the Intensive Eye Cream – for about a month now, spanning the transition between chilly Spring and soggy Summer. My post-menopausal skin is very oily, prone to breakouts, occasionally sensitive, and aging – making me a sort of dermatological “Everywoman”, sharing at least one skin issue with everyone out there. Happily, I’m not plagued by wrinkles — yet — but I’m willing to squint a little to highlight some crow’s feet for testing purposes. And I must believe I fall into the “transitioning” skin category that Dr. Kaplan targets with his line. Read more...

I was put on to NCN Professional Skincare and their 20% Matrixyl 3000 Serum by someone called Curious. I hadn’t heard of it and so went to check it out and what I saw made me curious enough to buy a bottle ($38 for 1oz) and start to test it out. Four weeks later I am impressed.
I decided to test NCN 20% Matrixyl 3000 on my left hand. Now, I would have to say that not much seemed to be happening for the first three weeks. Nothing bad happened either – none of the dryness that some serums can cause. But no real change either way. And then it kicked in and for the last week or so, my left has been catching my eye and it is looking smooth and the skin a little plumper. Best of all, if you pinch the skin, it is firm and springs back to place. Read more...

It has been a little more than six weeks since I started testing Skinn Collagenesis 24 Hour Youth Preservation Cream ($48.50) and so far I am underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike it. Its just that my skin doesn’t look much better than when I started out. It has had a reasonable, but not overly onerous challenge: the left side of my neck, which is less sun damaged than the right side but definitely in need of some TLC. Sometimes I squint at it and believe that there is a slight improvement, other days I am convinced there is not.
Skinn has its loyal admirers: read Julie Kay’s post on her skincare routine and who can blame her for the amount of interesting ingredients presented at a reasonable price range. Skinn also has its detractors: read Shyema’s reviewed and rejected post on the Firming Eyeshadow. Myself, I am the ambivalent camp along with Copley, who tested the night eye and wrinkle balm. The first time that I came across black cohosh was in KaplanMD’s Perfecting Serum ($185 in the TIA shop). I soon realized that Dr K is so enamored of this botanical that he puts it in just about every product in his range. It has been on my mind to find out more about it and so I did although I ended up not much wiser. Black cohosh comes with no research, bad research or contradictory research.
Black cohosh is a member of the buttercup family and native to North America. Other common names include black snakeroot, bugbane or bugwort on account of the fact that insects avoid it. Read more...
