I had my hair colored last week, which obviously adds a little damage to my locks. Having spent four days afterward in the hot Mexican sun didn’t help much either. I felt that my hair (already on the dry side), needed some hair medicine, so I made a quick trip to Sephora to discover Phyto Phytokarite Ultra Nourishing Mask.
I was going in blindly, suppressing everything I know about hair products and letting the Sephora employee pick out a great hair mask for me. She narrowed it down to two (I was pretty certain Phyto was going to be a contender). While I was looking over the ingredients of both masks she selected, a customer who happened to be in the hair aisle told me that Phyto Ultra Nourishing Mask was the better choice. Two personalized recommendations… not a bad start, though it amplified my expectations. Read more...

I have been using Kerastase Age Premium products (Bain Substantif $34, and Masque Substantif, $63.99) exclusively for about 2 months now. I love them! My hair is very full and healthy looking after both the shampoo and the masque. They leave my hair soft and shiny.
The best part of both of these products is that my normally very itchy scalp has not itched at all since I started using the Kerastase Age Premium. I have tried tons of shampoos and conditioners, and the very next day after I shampoo my hair, my scalp will be so itchy. This has not been the case with the Age Premium.
The only con I have is that the masque tends to be a bit heavy and no matter how little of it I use, I have to wash my hair more frequently, as this seems to make my hair oily on the 2nd day after shampooing, where I normally can go 2-3 days in between a shampoo. Read more...
It all happened so suddenly. For months since my last hair cut, I let my long blonde hair (formerly one of my best features) hang free, proud of its effortless shine and volume. Then one day a trend emerged: I had taken to hiding my hair under hats and headbands without fully realizing why. My once bouncy, worry-free strands had transformed into limp, lifeless strings. Even though my hair looked perfectly normal right after a shower and blow dry – BAM! – a grease bomb would drop out of nowhere and drown my crown under an oil spill by lunchtime. No matter how many times I shampooed (in one count, three times within a 24-hour period), I kept encountering the same oily streaks. Despite looking and feeling clean elsewhere, I felt ashamed that people might perceive me as dirty. Read more...

Beer is no longer just a frosty beverage for relaxing and refreshing the body. Cleansing with beer can actually add body to your hair. As we’ve seen in the many ways it is believed beer can help your hair, there are special components within beer- including B vitamins, wheat proteins, and maltose sugars- that make drinking a bottle less useful than pouring it on your head. The complex carbohydrates in beer have a hydrating effect, while proteins coat each strand, giving them more strength and elasticity. Not only does hair appear shinier in the short term, but it also becomes stronger to avoid long-term breakage.
Throughout awards season, the glitz and glamor of Hollywood is nearly inescapable. So it is refreshing to know that some stars forego the hair and makeup chair in favor of natural beauty treatments. Catherine Zeta-Jones counts washing her hair in beer among her favorite homegrown beauty secrets, even if it leaves her smelling like the bottom of a beer barrel for days. Coming from the woman who has been crowned celebrity with the “best dressed” hair, a beer shampoo seems like a promising hair savior. Read more...

I want to thank you again for allowing me to sample Kronos Hydresse Conditioner. After a lengthy trial, with my hair in different states of disrepair I can definitely say that it was a total success. When I received the full bottle sample you sent my hair was quite damaged due to a bad dye job, and having to remove the color, using a color remover twice.
After the first trial my hair felt much better, but of course was still quite damaged. With regular use, leaving the conditioner on the recommended 1-5 minutes my hair actually recovered it’s health. After a few weeks I had to leave the conditioner on for shorter and shorter times to keep it from getting over conditioned, as I have soft, rather fine hair. Read more...
