Here in Thailand, lemongrass is one of the most common (and appreciated) plants, ubiquitous, and found in everything from national dishes to skincare products (the range of medicinal and culinary benefits is extensive). It also happens to be one of my favorite scents, so imagine the utter joy when I wear lemongrass-scented body lotion while eating Tom Yum soup. I discovered a terrific lemongrass body lotion at Six Senses Destination Spa in Phuket, the resort’s own beauty brand, and perhaps one of the best ones I’ve used featuring lemongrass. Read more...

There’s often a large difference between grooming products for men and those for women and with good reason: men have thicker skin; women love more fragrant products; etc. Generally we stick to our gender role but If there’s one thing men should steal from the female of the house (and yes, I condone theft) it’s Ec-Oooh Chic Bohemian Blue Organic Body Lotion, an all-organic treat for dry skin.
Ec-Oooh Chic is fairly new, an eco-friendly, “green” brand safe for the body. The packaging is quite… eh, girly. From the playful font to the cartoon image of the blonde girl sitting in a bath tub exposing a leg, it’s obviously marketed with the female in mind. Nonetheless, Ec-Oooh Chic Bohemian Blue Organic Body Lotion is incredibly nourishing and hydrating, acceptable for all genders who like solid body lotions free of chemicals and loaded with useless emollients. Until a few years ago I didn’t bother with a body moisturizer. In my mind it was an unnecessary step in my daily routine. That was until I was perusing the grooming section of a popular men’s magazine which extolled the benefits of slathering on a moisturizer fresh out of the shower. It was an ‘aha’ moment – after all, who wants a fresh youthful face sitting on an aged and uncared for body? It only takes a couple minutes and I will reap benefits down the road? Sign me up!
Future Face is a new company based in France and one of their products is a Hydrating Body Milk with fresh quince extract. In an attempt to thoroughly test this Body Milk, I only used it on the left half of my body from shoulder to foot, applying immediately after shower and toweling off, and used nothing on the right side for the first week. My immediate observation was that it quickly sank in without feeling greasy, leaving the skin smooth without being shiny. As might be expected, the left side felt smoother and had a more hydrated appearance than the right at the end of the week. Read more...

I have always been a fan of vinotherapie, and the most prominent brand to utilize it is Caudalie. I was happy to try their spa at Frank Gehry-designed Marque De Riscal in Rioja, Spain and—just recently—at the Plaza hotel here in New York City. The new Premiere Cru facial (a two-hour facial!) was decadent and essentially highlighted the new Caudalie product: Premier Cru.
The Premier Cru is Caudalie’s latest anti-aging product. The benefits include regenerating, smoothing and firming, addressing all signs of aging, like wrinkles, dark spots, oxidation and dryness. I was curious to try it out for the sake of its quick popularity in the beauty industry. The Premier Cru is inspired by Bordeaux’s finest wines (grapes are awesome for the skin!) and features a powerhouse of its best patents, which work as the active ingredients: resveratrol, viniferine and grape seed polyphenols. Hand creams, I believe, are the most underrated grooming products. How often do you shake someone’s hand and feel like they’ve chafed your fingers with their skin? Or is that you chafing theirs? And with colder weather approaching, you know our skin is just getting drier and rougher. To be honest, I often forget about the condition of my hands and, thankfully, due to some rigorous rock climbing this past weekend that left my hands hard and in poor form (with blisters and such), it easily reminded me that treatment was necessary.
