As an avid reader and frequent contributor to TIA, I often lust over the more expensive, results-driven products that are reviewed and recommended. However, in this economy, I just can’t seem to pull the trigger on products that cost $100, $125 and $150 plus! On the other hand, I want (and need) the benefits of high quality ingredients (like Matrixyl 3000, hyaluronic acid, Argireline, Pepha Tight (marine collagen), retinol, etc.,) as well as organic elements without petrochemicals, artificial colors, preservatives or parabens. So, imagine my delight when I happened across Skin-Perfection!!!
Who is Skin-Perfection and what is it about? According to Kari at Skin Perfection “our goal is to provide you with the BEST anti aging, organic skincare infused with the latest cosmeceuticals to provide the most advanced anti aging skincare WITHOUT harsh chemicals or outrageous prices! When I hear “serum”, I think runny…slimy…sticky. I think of an oftentimes unpleasant base layer in my beauty regime which typically neither moisturizes nor provides SPF protection. And I think of suffering short-term discomfort for long-term benefits. Perhaps I’ve been hanging with the wrong serum crowd, because I was just introduced to a new product by Wilava that fits none of these descriptions. Wilava’s Vitamin C Serum is somehow airy, agreeable, and satisfying all at the same time. Instead of filling in as an added step, this serum stands on its own while thoroughly moisturizing, protecting, and improving the look and feel of skin. Read more...

There is nothing like a great face mask that really makes a visible difference to your skin after you wash it off. That’s 100% Pure’s Pineapple Enzyme Facial Peel for me. It’s been my go-to skin brightener for years now.
The vegan brand stays true to its name, using only pure ingredients free of chemicals, synthetics and dyes as we’ve seen in 100% Pure’s cleanser and tinted moisturizer. This mask comes in a powder form, which I love for two reasons: (1) It has a longer shelf life and won’t go bad for a long, long time; (2) you only use a tablespoon per use so it will last you forever. I’ve had mine for years and still have half a tub left! Read more...

Exotic ingredients are no strangers to luxe cosmetic lines, so upon reading that Amala’s Purify collection (we have used and reviewed Amala’s Rejuvenating line) uses the rare Blue lotus as the common thread in each of its seven facial skincare products (Rejuvenating products major in on antioxidant cocoa), it seemed like high time to give the beautiful botanical a second glance.
Blue lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) and its cousin the Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) are native to Africa and parts of Southern Asia. The sacred flower was celebrated in ancient Egyptian times as a perfume, health tonic and possible aid for sexual stimulation; its blossoms were even found scattered over Tutankhaman’s body when the pharaoh’s tomb was opened in 1922. In cosmetics, the ingredient can be found in cleansers, moisturizers and exfoliants, functioning as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. However, it is also rich in phytosterols, cholesterol-like molecules found in plants that can make skin sensitive to light. Read more...

In a world of increasing cosmetic complexity, it is refreshing to find something that is so simple. Amikole’s body butter is shea and chocolate and that’s it. You could almost eat it. In any case, your skin will just lap this up. Shea is a fantastic moisturizer and skin soother and chocolate is an important antioxidant and even a natural sunscreen.
Researchers in Germany, reported that women drinking cocoa had 15% less skin reddening from UV light after six weeks of cocoa consumtion and 25% less after 12 weeks of the trial. After 12 weeks, the women’s skin was 16% denser, 11% moisture, 30% less rough, and 42% less scaly than it was at the beginning of the experiment. Read more...
