Five Best facial cleansers- December 2009

I’ve come across some many good cleansers this year and, as I find myself reaching for them over and over again, it struck me that there was a new Five Best in the making. A good way to test a cleanser is to leave the face bare for an hour or so after using it. So many of them leave you with tight, dry skin that cries out for an immediate swathe of moisturizer. Not these.

The star of our last Five Best cleansers, Tracie Martyn’s Amla, has made it back again. For those on a budget, CSI’s Rose Hip Cleanser is incredible value. A great Copley find and recommended by our reviewer Terri is Olives Organic Botanicals (available in the TIA store). My latest discovery is Sky Botanicals African Black Soap Brightening Cleanser. Epicuren Discovery Milk Cleanser is a gentle and effective solution for sensitive, oily skin. If anyone is wondering what happened to Suki’s exfoliating cleanser, I still love it but have held it back for an upcoming five best exfoliators.

I really like the Belli Acne Clearing Facial Wash too. It is more of a specialty wash I suppose since it’s for acne prone pregnant women….I’m not pregnant, but I use it every morning as preventative maintenace.

Yes, Belli should be given a shout out for being a very strong also ran. It will definitely make it into a future round up of acne treatments, and/or safe for expecting moms.

I’ve been using Skye Botanicals black soap face wash forever! It really cleanses deeply, cleans your pores super well, and leaves you feeling and smelling fresh. I’m so glad it’s being recognized!

      Hi Marta,

I was researching where to buy the Amla face cleanser and found that on the skinstore.com site if you enter the discount code ‘fab20′ at checkout it gives you $13.00 off. So the price goes from $65.00 to $52.00. Just thought I would share, since it’s nice to find discounts on awesome products!!

I have been using the Olives Organic carrot seed cleasner and moisturizer and these are hands down the best facial products ever used. The best thing is they are all organic

I have used the Made from Earth Green Tea Cleanser since I was a teenager, when my mom bought it for me. Over the years I’ve tried many, many other cleansers and I always come back to the one from Made from Earth. So, now it is the only one I ever buy.

You can use it two different ways, either by massaging it over your face and then wiping it off with tissue or a wahcloth or rinsing it off with water. It is gentle on my dry sensitive skin and leaves it feeling soft and moisturized. It also removes my makeup, including eyeliner, mascara (unless it’s waterproof), eye shadow, concealer, and face powder, with no irritation. It is very reasonably priced and a bottle lasts me a long time, usually at least 3 months.

I have recommended it to many people who comment on how great my skin looks and feels. I can’t say enough good things about Made from Earth – so glad I found it!
