    Derma e Clear Vein Creme

I wanted so much for Derma e Clear Vein Creme to work that I can’t bring myself to dub it a ‘reviewed and rejected’.  Clear Vein is aimed at eliminating spider veins and bruises. And with organic ingredients, a 3% dollop of horse chestnut and nothing to dislike apart from the ubiquitous preservative phenoxyethanol, it is doing all the right things. Except, that is, for having any effect on my spider veins.

I’ve been using Clear Vein in a side-by-side test with a horse chestnut potion of my own concoction. The results of channeling my inner mad scientist are definitely more impressive than Clear Vein’s, the latter not really having achieved anything at all. I should point out, however, that I have my DIY potion the easier job of my right cheek, with its fewer broken capillaries. Still after a good six weeks of getting nowhere with Derma e, I am tempted to give up and see what my potion can do with a tougher challenge.

Both creams rely mostly on the capillary strengthening capabilities of horse chestnut. The seeds of horse chestnut contain a saponin called escin. This is supposed to strengthen veins and capillaries by blocking an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which can breakdown of proteoglycans (part of the structure of capillary walls). Derma e also uses rutin, an antioxidant flavenoid that is found in buckwheat. It is also supposed to help strengthen capillaries and reduce bruising. There is also pinus pinaster, an impressive antioxidant that will be the subject of an upcoming ‘what is it’ post.

See what I mean? With all of that and more, it should work. I found very mixed reviews for Derma e Clear Vein Creme. The most positive claimed that it cleared up rosacea, but I had to feel for a woman who tried it for a whole year before deciding that it had done nothing for her.

      Hi Marta,

You may want to try taking a good quality grapeseed extract supplement. I have been taking one for a few months and, although it is no miracle quick-fix, it has decreased the number of spider veins on my legs and GREATLY decreased the redness on my cheeks! It may be worth a try.

      Erin,
It can’t hurt so I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the tip.
