Ildi doesn’t steer you wrong. The keen eye and practiced hand of Marta’s esthetician always seems to know what’s in your skin’s best interests. Several weeks ago, she shared with us her top-secret recipe for a homemade parsley facial mask made of three simple ingredients. Two of them, yogurt and apple cider vinegar, are kitchen staples that you probably already have in your home, but you should buy the parsley fresh. The preparation only takes a few minutes, especially if you decide to use modern equipment. We did things the old-fashioned way, relying on a mortar and pestle to hand grind the parsley. Follow our step-by-step guide to concocting Ildi’s signature parsley mask below.
And check back in on Saturdays (when you might have time to actually follow up) for regular posts on how to make your own cosmetics.
- Start with a handful of chopped parsley and remove the stems
- Using a food processor or mortar and pestle, reduce the parsley to a pulp
- If doing it by hand, mash for a full two minutes until the parsley releases its juice
- Add three teaspoons or two tablespoons of plain yogurt
- The lactic acid in yogurt naturally soothes, softens, and tightens the skin
- Continue mixing the solution to evenly distribute the active components
- Parsley’s beauty benefits include lightening the skin, reducing inflammation, and preventing wrinkles
- Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (we used pomegranate vinegar for extra antioxidants)
- Vinegar has a tonic action that promotes blood circulation in the small capillaries which irrigate the skin
- The final mixture should appear bright green, thick and creamy- without a runny consistency
- To apply, use your fingers or some sort of brush to scoop a dollop on your face and spread from there
- If you own a silicone pastry brush (which doesn’t gunk up and can be tossed in the dishwasher), this is a great way to get some extra use out of it
- Though the mixture adheres readily to skin, beware of falling parsley clumps
- Working with the other actives, parsley’s high levels of vitamin K, luteolin, beta-carotene, and folic acid infuse the skin with antioxidants
- After 20 minutes under the parsley mask, skin will appear softer, tighter, and rejuvenated

How often should one apply this mask?
Thanks!
once a week or whenever you feel droopy and in need of tightening.
Once you make the mask over the stove, what do you do with the remaining parsley do you store it in the refrigerator or do you make it fresh each time you need it. In addition if I can save the parsley do I heat it again each time I use it?
No cooking, no heating. The parsley is just chopped raw. You can freeze remaining parsely.
