SenZen Double Dose Eye Cream- reviewed and recommended

For three weeks I have been testing an eye cream from a new line called SenZen. Normally, I prefer to try something for at least month before writing a review. But I have two reasons for jumping the gun. First the very practical reason that SenZen sent me a small sample of Double Dose Eye Cream ($84) and it has just run out. Secondly, I have to confess that I was loving it after only 10 days.

Double Dose Eye Cream is a rich eye cream that belies its spa origins (behind SenZen is the San Francisco-based Sen Spa) by its dense texture: this eye cream was meant to be massaged by the knowing finger tips of an esthetician. I feared that it would be too much for my delicate eye area and donate some milia. But no, Double Dose has proven to be as gentle as it is effective. My eye area looks incredibly hydrated with no crepiness and a definite smoothing of lines. My eye area looks younger. After my beloved Your Best Correct, this could easily become a favorite anti-wrinkle eye cream.

    Five Best brands for 30-somethings

At the end of last year, we put together our Five Best brands for 20-somethings and coming across it the other day I realized it was high time to do the same for the 30-somethings in the TIA community. Our resident 30-something Kim, has made some great endorsements recently and I am ever grateful to Copley for casting her net wide and deep and letting us in on her hits and misses.

This is the decade when prevention – not repair – is key. So however exciting growth factors or peptides seem to be, collagen and cellular repair may not yet be needed by 30-somethings. And may not be needed for a good long while to come if you get it right now with good botanical antioxidants. A key thing for 30-somethings seems to be skin brightening. This is the time when the complexion can start to look a little ashy and dull, so make sure you have the best cleansers and exfoliators you can afford. Perhaps you’ll find one amongst our Five Best brands for 30-somethings:

In mid-May, I received a bottle of Skin Perfection Eye Bright ($18.95) and Nutra-Lift Wrinkle Repair Ultra ($39) to take for a test drive and I arrived at the finish line with mixed results.

Skin Perfection is a brand that I’ve wanted to love since first reading about it on TIA.  It’s a reasonably-priced, anti-aging, organic product line that doesn’t contain harsh chemicals or parabens. The truth is, however, I hadn’t yet found a reason to love it.  I bought a number of their products including the Glycolic Cleanser, Clear Skin Hydrator and Moisturizing Mask and my skin did not react well to any of them.  I hoped the Eye Bright would be different.

Will wild yam make you younger

I just got reacquainted with Skin Nutrition’s Cell CPR after buying a replacement bottle and was reminded that amongst its 70-odd ingredients is wild yam. This jumped out at me because a friend had just emailed me a couple of links about wild yam and controversial claims that it can harness hormones to relieve symptoms of menopause, cure arthritis and even enlarge breasts. Sounds like a little Truth In Aging perspective is in order.

The roots of wild yam (dioscorea villosa) and claims for its medicinal prowess date back to the 1960s. Wild yam contains something called diosgenin and it was discovered that this is the precursor for the semisynthesis of progesterone. By converting diosgenin in the lab to progesterone, scientists produced the first combined oral contraceptive pills.

Another CTONICS review to add to Martaspedia plus a Dare To Try It

    See Junko’s profile

Truth In Aging is my Martaspedia, a personal care products encyclopedia. I liken it to Wikipedia in that; registered users expand its content with their reviews and comments. Martaspedia is an expansive database of product reviews, ingredients and commentaries from users that never cease to amaze me every time I put words into its search field. Always 1 step a head, which I really come to appreciate when I find myself, 2 steps behind. Two steps behind is where I was not too long ago as a captive audience to a Chaz Dean’s WEN heads infomercial. Thirty minutes of Chaz’s non-stop continuous hair bouncing theatrics and the only information of value I got was that I’d need to re-grow all my hair (no small task) before a genuine bouncing head of WEN hair could be mine. If you put WEN into Truth In Aging’s search field, it brings up two articles from 2008 and 2009 with information on ingredients, comments from users and no bouncing distractions. With this, I was able to decide in 5 minutes that WEN was not for me. Still, I was interested in the idea of conditioning rather than ‘washing’ my hair and I recalled a positive review once of CTONICS. I typed CTONICS into the search field and voilà! Instant recall! After re-reading our long haired users’ review again, I decided that CTONICS was a better product to try.
