Fusion Beauty’s StimuLashFusion looks a lot like Lashes LTD

There are so many eyelash and brow growth products on the market that they are beginning to merge together. In some cases, quite literally: Cilea and Nutra-Lift Lash Renue are identical. Now Fusion Beauty’s StimuLashFusion Intensive Night Conditioning Lash Enhancer ($89) has arrived and it took me an hour or so, but eventually I discovered that it is more or less the same as Skin Blends Lashes LTD.

Actually, it is – apart from a teensy reordering at the end of the ingredients list – the same thing and will be added to our list of product twins (identical formulas marketed by different brands and with widely differing price points). And, it turns out to be my first product triplet. Yep, it is also identical to NutraLuxe Lash ($79). In this case, you will save yourself nearly $20 by buying LTD rather than StimuLashFusion. Personally, I don’t care for any of them since the active ingredient is a prostaglandin, methylamido dihydro noralfaprostal, derivative with potentially unpleasant side effects.

New arrivals from Reviva Labs in the Truth In Aging shop

Reviva has turned out to be one of those reliable, reasonably priced brands that deliver department store and even spa experiences for the thrifty, but demanding (that would be us). Not only have we reviewed and recommended a clutch of Reviva’s products, but many of them are still in use in my bathroom. Take the Collagen Eye Pads.

This kit, which costs $37.69 at the TIA shop, comes with a 2oz bottle of Skin Energizing Gel that is applied around the eye area before positioning pre-soaked pads. The gel has ahnfeltia concinna extract, which has peptides that are thought to trigger a signal to the epidermal and dermal cells that a substantial breakdown of collagen has occurred. Just the thing before adding some replacement collagen. Enter the pads, which are applied over the gel, under the eye and up to the crow’s feet area. In addition to collagen, there is Myoxinol in the pads. Brilliant to perk you up before a night out and a must for the morning after the night before.

Somme Institute in the Truth In Aging shop

We have been working hard with our partners at OpenSky to get more of our recommended products into the Truth In Aging shop and we have also lined up great deals and promotions so check back in over the next few days. In the meantime, we are kicking off with Somme Institute and new additions to the Reviva range (see next post).

I first came across Somme more than two years ago at a spa and I used their serum, which has a potent shot of vitamin C for hyperpigmentation. I even added a dose of ferulic acid to it (research has shown that this boosts the action of vitamins C and E). Actually, Somme has its own ways of getting the most out of this serum’s ingredients (which I didn’t realize at the time). First, Somme’s C is ascorbyl methysilanol that is particularly (and unlike some other Cs) stable. Plus it features something called Molecular Dispersion Technology (MDT5). Developed over seven years and tested on 5000 participants, MDT5 is a combo of vitamins A, B3, B5, C and E. They have been attached to proteins that target skin cell receptors to ensure that the nutrients are deeply absorbed.

Phyto Ultra Nourishing Mask- reviewed and recommended

I had my hair colored last week, which obviously adds a little damage to my locks. Having spent four days afterward in the hot Mexican sun didn’t help much either. I felt that my hair (already on the dry side), needed some hair medicine, so I made a quick trip to Sephora to discover Phyto Phytokarite Ultra Nourishing Mask.

I was going in blindly, suppressing everything I know about hair products and letting the Sephora employee pick out a great hair mask for me. She narrowed it down to two (I was pretty certain Phyto was going to be a contender). While I was looking over the ingredients of both masks she selected, a customer who happened to be in the hair aisle told me that Phyto Ultra Nourishing Mask was the better choice. Two personalized recommendations… not a bad start, though it amplified my expectations.

Concentrate from Your Best Face- testing a DIY serum

I have been having a huge amount of fun recently – thanks to all of you and Your Best Face. About six weeks ago, we got together with Your Best Face to create do it yourself kits that will be available in our store and allow members of our community to unleash their inner mad scientist and make their own cosmetics. When we asked you to tell us what you’d like, many people said they would like something in the heavy guns department. Think serum. Think intense.

Darrell, the founder of Your Best Face and chief formulator, sent me some vials of something that he called Concentrate. It features Your Best Face’s favorite antiaging actives: spin trap, Lipochroman-6 and vitamin E. I got to unleash my own inner mad scientist by trying it out with other potions and lotions and as a base for treatments. I even raided the refrigerator for fresh accoutrements to make a mask. Here are some of the things I did with Concentrate:
