Medik8 Firewall

Five Best with Copper Peptides 2018

Size: 1.0 oz (30 ml)

Medik8 Firewall is an antioxidant-packed anti-aging serum that minimizes the appearance of fine lines, crow’s feet, and wrinkles while protecting skin from premature aging. The highly-potent new formula contains powerful anti-agers and free-radical-fighting ingredients, such as copper peptides, Matrixyl 3000, Lipochroman-6, and niacinamide. Medik8 Firewall has been positively reviewed by women in the TIA community , so when you purchase this product, you can trust that it works.

Medik8 Firewall is packaged in an airless dual-chamber pump, which maximizes the potency of the product’s active ingredients. Unlike many other anti-aging serums, the broad-spectrum formula attacks and neutralizes a wide variety of free-radical species, delivering maximum benefits for smoother, softer, and younger-looking skin.

TIA Review by Dawn:
I am 49 and have oily to normal skin. I am very fair (English), so I don’t have a lot of sun damage, and my skin tone is fairly even. Upon receiving the newly reformulated Medik8 Firewall, I was right into it! I really love the packaging. It’s well-presented and original, although during the time I used it, one side of the dual-chamber dispenser stuck a little. I used it morning and evening after cleaning my face and used my regular moisturizers after applying the Medik8 Firewall.

At first, I didn’t think the amount of product that dispensed from the pump would cover my face and neck, but it did. The texture is really nice and lightweight and absorbs beautifully, so I felt as though it was going into my skin, rather than just sitting on the surface. There was no residue at all after applying it. Also, I didn’t experience any adverse reactions as a result of this serum.

After the first couple of weeks, I didn’t think the Firewall had made any difference. But now that I’m one month into it, I’m really pleased to say that I think it has softened the superficial wrinkles on my face. The only way I can describe my face in the mirror is to say it’s similar to looking at myself though a blurred lens, and that’s with my glasses on! My face also feels firmer and smoother. Even my husband has commented that my face feels smoother, so it must be working. I will definitely be buying another once I’ve used it all up. Thank you, Truth In Aging, for the wonderful opportunity. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.

I had great hopes for this product.
Unfortunately, it did nothing for me.
As Marta mentioned, this is for repairing damage. I am 46 and have a rather round face so no wrinkles yet, but I have sagging cheeks and this is why I had ordered Medik8. In order to finish up the bottle nonetheless, I am now mixing it with the Truth Vitality Gel prior to my ultrasound session - which I have just started.
In one session of the Lux Renew ultrasound+ one session of red LED, I have seen a difference in the oval of my face :-)

The next anti-sagging product on my list (and in my drawer) is MitoQ. I will report if it works better than Medik8 for me.

Reviewing again now that I have purchased my FOURTH bottle. This is my first year to buy anti-aging products so I am still exploring (especially eye serums!)

I found Firewall early in my search for products and have used it consistently for 6 months. First, I should tell you my young daughter and husband ask to use it for scrapes, burns and wounds. It really seems to accelerate healing. Starting Bottle 4, I can now see actual changes to the (I thought permanent) smile lines at my mouth, eyes and between brows. In 4 bottles, the pumps have worked flawlessly and delivery really almost all of the product. (However, because it is expensive, I remove the top and pull out the final bits with Q Tip. Consistently I find 1-2 applications left in there but not more.

I have skin that will break out in the presence of oil and have had no problems with Firewall. No scent. While expensive, I am glad I took the risk because it is the staple for my skin care.

I have used Medik8 Firewall for a couple years now and absolutely can vouch for it's firming of sagging skin. My skin has taken a true turn over the last 2 years I have used this product.

I have used this product faithfully and have seen absolutely no results. The dual pump is a disaster and one side quit pumping completely. I had to remove the top and insert it backwards to use the one side that worked. For the price you would think they would have put more concern into seeing that you can actually use the product as directed. I won't be purchasing again. In fact I feel ripped off if you know what I mean.

Reviewing again at the end of my first bottle (second bottle on the way). I ran out while traveling, so I whacked the end off the bottle to get any final bits out and discovered the dual pump did a very good job dispensing nearly all the product. I had to dig out the remainder with a Q tip and got another 1.5 applications.
People ask if I have lost weight (I haven't) so I know it is my skin looking better. My pores are smaller and it has healed some black/whitehead action on my nose and chin.

I'm a guy and this helps. I use less product because I shave so it just the tzone and around the lines of nose to mouth, forehead and corners of eyes. If you want proof that your skin is changing just look at the back of your right hand that you use to swirl the two ingredients and compare to the back of your left hand. The transformation is very significant. Used with the red defense serum ( use that on lines too) wrinkles seem to be "filling" up with skin. And red blemishes like broken vessels are fading after just one week. Truthful review here. Throw in some retin A otc and your good to go.

    Hi Amilia

You can use them both twice a day. I would apply Firewall first.

I used Medik8 beta aox for about one year. I really like it. I'm 45 and my skin is proacne :(., so Medik8 beta aox helped me a lot, but now I see my skin is starting to sag and wrinkles . I just bought Medik8 Firewall and Pretox Infin8. Do you think can I use both in the morning and evening? And Pretox infin8 first or second?

I have only been using this product for 2 weeks and I know I will be ordering another one. I can see results! My skin is looking brighter and smoother. The two pump system functions well and if the ingredients really need to be kept separate before combining, it works to do that. (I don't know if it is really necessary or marketing.) It does not have a strong smell, absorbs quickly and feels good.

This was pretty much the first product I tried from Truth in Aging. I had high hopes after reading the reviews and expected to see great results on my "virgin" (post-menopausal, average number of lines) skin. It unfortunately was used up pretty quickly and I had some trouble dispensing the two sides evenly from the container. I really did not see any particular improvement.

I am on my third bottle & I think that I will always incorporate Medik8 Firewall into my skincare routine. I use it every night on almost my entire face, with special emphasis on my laugh and forehead lines. I have noticed definite softening of these lines and no new wrinkles.

I am 53 and have been experiencing ACNE! Talk about unfair -- wrinkles AND acne?! Anyway, Firewall has made a noticeable and remarkable difference in my skin. My acne is clearing and my skin feels tighter and smoother. I got a little carried away initially and went thru my first bottle rather quickly. I now use it in the morning only (and use Medik8 C Serum at night alternating with Retin-A) and my skin looks amazing. I do follow it with a moisturizer but can go without and my skin is still hydrated. Goes well under make-up, too.

Hi Shalini, most of Firewall's heavy hitting ingredients are for repairing existing damage and for boosting collagen. Most of us start to see the effects of collagen reduction in our 40s and it likely by starting now to boost it, you may slow down and prevent it. You can certainly use Firewall in the same regimen as CE Thione or any vitamin C serum.

Hi. I am a frequent buyer at TIA and am re-visiting the idea of using Medik8 Firewall. However, my concern is whether this product is preventive or reparative in nature?
Is this product ideal to use for in late 30s-early 40s?
Also can the Medik8 CE-Thione be introduced in a skin care regime if using Firewall?

I just started trying Medik8 Firewall a few weeks ago and noticed a difference immediately. It is summer, and as much as i try to stay out of the sun and heap on the sunscreen, I always end up with sunspots and tired looking skin. Not this year! My skin is much more even than usual and the glow from MitoQ has amplified since adding Firewall. Even the wrinkles on my forehead look much smoother.

I love Firewall so much I want to marry it. The instructions say to mix the 2 chambered pumps onto the back of the hand, then apply to face and neck. Guess how good the back of that hand looks ! Now I have to start using the other hand to even up the look.

Hi Jan-Marie, I am really not sure why Medik8 makes these stipulations. I use it on my lip lines area all the time. I must admit that I haven't used it directly under the eyes - only crow's feet - as a I am happy with my YBF Correct eye cream. But you could try a small test area for a few days and then continue with a full under eye application if nothing adverse happens.

BTW, the formatting of your comment/question was off (huge spaces) and I had to edit it on the back end. Our system doesn't allow us to save an edited comment without there being a star rating and, being forced to do so, I gave yours a three-star. Sorry about that. I can change the number of stars if you have a preference, but can't save without any.

The Medik8 website's directions are different from yours (see below). Do you think there is a problem using it around the eyes and lips? It is where I need it most!

    "Directions

Apply after cleansing each morning and evening. Mix a single dose from each pump on the back of your hand. Apply a small amount to face, neck and décolletage, avoiding upper and lower eyelids and lips. Use light, upward strokes and allow to absorb before applying your regular Medik8 hydrator."

Hi Gloria, I am delighted that you like Firewall. Your question about the difference between the old and the new formula brought to my attention that we hadn't swapped in my updated review of the new version. I have just done so. The short answer is that they upped the copper peptides. For the longer answer, you can now read my review above.

I have used the Medik Firewall for some time now and absolutely love it. My skin has become firmer and and the lines have softened quite a bit. I have been using it in daytime and the Medik Growth Factor at night. My Esti alwals tells me to not stop what I'm doing. She has never tried to sell me products from the salon. I am wondering what is changed in the new formula.

I have been using the Medik8 Firewall for almost two months primarily at night along with a little boost from the Medik8 Growth Factor. I have been attempting to use it in the morning as well with the stableliized Vitamin C from Medik8 and am very pleased to report some great progress on my not so young face. I use it on my face, neck, upper chest area and the back of my hands. Although I have been blessed with good skin I am still 62 so I have to be very displined about my skin ritual in order to acheive the results that younger women and men would probably get in a shorter period of time.

WOW WOW WOW - I just love my Firewall. Thanks to my friend Megan who recommended I read TIA. xxxxx

So my review on Firewall.... After 3 weeks my skin is totally transformed. Yes - I know that sounds incredible but the difference is incredible. Before, perhaps the best way to describe my skin was it was permanently dull. My skin used to be full of life but for a while its lacked dazzle. Like the paint on a car left in the sun too long. It looks ok until you see it next to a nice shiny new one :-(

I'm just 40 and in good health so no idea why. No changes to diet or medications. I have felt like this for a couple of years. I had a series of three glycolic peels, each of which hurt like hell (I am a total baby!) but they did help a little. Just not enough and I found them expensive and a lot of downtime because my skin is quite sensitive. I have tried brightening creams (no luck there) and rich moisturisers because I read one reason for dull skin is dryness. A rich moisturiser definitely helped but the flip side was my skin got clogged up and I started to look puffy!

Then I found Firewall on this website. I could see this was a cream designed for people with dull skin so I thought I would give it a go. So happy I did. Straight away it feels moisturising and lovely to use but it is from the 1st week onwards that my skin felt much fresher and looked brighter. The benefits kept getting better and levelled out at week 3 - for me anyhow.

I am totally converted. And I recommend this product to anyone with dull skin. Good luck.

Using this only for two weeks only at night time and here's a quick review

To sum it up, It works...subtle differences that I can see but the beat is a luminous glow on my very oily skin...

Skin seems more younger of that makes sense, the dull tired looking cast has gone . Skin on forehead and cheeks seems more supple and firm. And the big open pores near the nose on both sids, seem to be smaller and tighter.

1+1 or 2+2 pumps covers full face, neck and back of neck comfortably. I spread it on a slightly damp face and it easily spreads out and then dries to a nice satiny feel..

I feel I would buy this again definitely but want to pit it against MitoQ serum and see which gives better result on my skin.

Hi Christian, we have researched the vitamin C/copper peptide issue and conclude that they can safely be combined. There is evidence that the two substances would interact by vitamin C replacing the peptide as the chelating agent around the copper center, but it is a very uncommon occurrence. Although it would somewhat depend on the relative concentrations of the two substances, based on our research, the effect in an overall product would be near negligible. Similarly, there is not an issue that I am aware of with zinc.

    Hello,

I have only recently ordered Medik8 Firewall, and so can't yet comment on its effectiveness. However, I do have a question about it's usage in combination with other products, particularly those containing vitamin C and zinc-based sunscreens. Both on this site and elsewhere I've seen cautions NOT to combine products containing copper peptides and vitamin C, as the two counter-act each other. I'd be interested to learn if Medik8 provides any guidelines on using products containing these components? For example, is using a vitamin C serum in the morning, and then Medik8 Firewall in the evening a reasonable approach, or should there be an even greater length of time between their individual applications?

I've also seen mention made that zinc interacts badly with copper peptides, which makes me wonder if using a zinc-based sunscreen in combination with Firewall is not recommended?

Any insights into this would be welcome. Thank you for your time and attention!

    Regards,
    Christian

I have used this for 3 months now. I think it has helped with filling in some around my mouth lines and marionette lines. It takes a while to notice any results and it doesn't have the 'tightening' I would wish for a instant visible result.

I'm in a quandary: I want to love this, I like the way it soaks into my skin and I have had really good luck with copper peptides in the past, but having read that one should not use copper at the same time as growth factor products, I stopped using them in the evening while I tried Firewall. I can't say that it adversely affected my skin, but there were also no benefits. I am typically a "fast responder," and after one month I had to admit that I was waking up looking much less refreshed. The search continues...

When using the Medik8 Firewall alongside Growth Factor, layering would be overkill. Your best bet is to reserve one for day time and one for night, or as you already mentioned, alternating days.

Hi, I just received my order of Firewall, and I will be ordering a Medik8 moisturizer from TIA to use over it today. ( Cannot resist Marta's sales!) But I also have 2/3 of a bottle left of Medik8 growth serum and I was wondering how to use these together..? I checked Medik8's website but it doesn't really give any hints as to a sequence using both. I see from some comments that people have used both, so I'm guessing maybe others just alternated days of using one or the other?

    Hi Marty,
Medik8 Firewall is packaged within 2 chambers - the premise is that the ingredients are most active when they first encounter one another, so they are kept in separate chambers until used. The idea is to pump a drop from each cylinder onto the back of the hand, mix together then apply.

    I hope this helps!

After reading the review by Marta on Firewall, I've been using it for about two weeks. I think my jaw line is already a bit tighter and my skin looks more luminous. I mix the two serums together on the back of my hand where there happens to be a dark spot from sun damage. Much to my surprise, I believe it is fading which is a good sign.

    Hi Elena
I have seen some of those remarks on the web, but no research from long term studies (or short term) proving the acceleration of aging theory. Have you? If so, please post a link. There is a decades of research on copper's efficacy as a wound healer and most anecdotal evidence suggests that repairs wrinkles. If you stop using any active ingredient that worked, your skin will revert (these are not permanent solutions, but require continued use).

    Marta,
i am concerned after reading that copper overuse can actually accelerate aging, and that the results are temporary, i.e that after stopping application, the condition of your skin worsens. I wonder if this is what happened to Kathy. Thoughts?

I am simply crazy about the three Medik8 products I have tried: C-Tetra, Firewall Anti Aging Serum and Growth Factor Serum. I have had excellent results with all three products, but I especially like the immediate results I have noticed with Medik8 Firewall Anti Aging Serum. It goes on like silk and absorbs completely. After a week, I can already see improvement in the fine lines around my mouth and chin, and even my neck.. I am now an official Medik8 fan and I've added this line to my anti-aging toolbox for the foreseeable future. I'm excited to try more Medik8 products because I've yet to meet one I didn't love.

I just wanted to report on the results I have had after using this product for a month. It is one of the best firming products I have used. I have been using AQ serum on my face so my skin already had a smooth texture. Since using the Firewall my skin is so bright. I have noticed that my face is very hydrated and firmer and I have been using it on my neck and decollete for the last 3 weeks and there is a difference already in the texture and firmness. I added Medik8 Firewall to my already effective routine, and after 3 weeks, I saw firming and pore-reducing qualities that I hadn't experienced with my other very good products. I should leave a comment as an update on this review. I reintroduced myself to Medik8 this year and it was every bit as good - nay, better - than I remembered. Not only is this an innovative and unusual product, it really is very effective. I find that it firms skin and smooths wrinkles so well that I will include it in my 2013 Five Best anti-aging serums.

Declaration of interest: I am the chief cosmetic chemist at Medik8

    Dear Marta & TIA Readers,

I am all in favour of totally independant review websites (I buy cosmetics too!) and appreciate the sceptisism of some parts of the otherwise positive article. While I could go into incredible detail as to the genuine level of hard core research that went in and continues to go in to the Firewall project I think you would benefit for the purposes of analysis by ingedient from knowing that there is a rule that ingredients put in a product at less than 1% can be listed in any order as long as they appear beneath ingredients higher than 1%. The majority of powerful actives (when purified and not as complexes) need only be included at around 1-5%. Therefore a whole raft of ingredients of perhaps neglegible trace concentration have been included in the product solely to throw off would be copy cats prior to patents being granted. Of the now three patents filed and them all around the world the first is to be published in a few months from now. In this first patent you will see the 9 other brands the product was tested against. We sincerely do not go out to speak negatively about other brands but we had to provide benchmarking data for the patent offices in the US and Europe therefore these tests and publishing the results were required. We will not and have not announced competitor names as you can see from marketing materials but once published there is nothing to stop you from Reading public patents.

So in short this comment is two-fold 1) don't worry about the large list of ingredients. Most are trace and there for commercial reasons. 2) the results of the studies are soon to be public record and you will see how Firewall is a minimum of 5 times stronger than the next best alternative.

Lastly to you Marta, good detective skills. You are warm in many of your guessed but missed a key active. But that was the whole point of our strategy and designed to fool P&G, L'Oreal scientists so don't be too disheartened.

Firewall in it's current form is very popular but new research means an upgrade in 2010 for which further patents have been applied will mean an upgraded formula. Users now can switch and upgrade when the time comes.
