New formula tested for 30 days and reviewed by Emily
I’ve followed Truth in Aging from the beginning, and while the list of great brands that TIA has introduced me to is extensive, none has a longer or better track record than Your Best Face. It was one of TIA’s earliest and best-loved finds, and I’ve used most of the line at one time or another. Certain YBF products — notably Prep (my all-time favorite), Control, and Correct — are almost always to be found in my bathroom.
So when TIA asked me to review something new from YBF, I didn’t even bother to ask the what or wherefore before saying yes. Turns out the product is a completely reformulated Your Best Face Restore, now a night serum for neck, face, and hands. And I’m happy to say that YBF has another winner that I think will be appealing to a broad range of people.
I sometimes find YBF’s product-naming protocol confusing — picking a verb that’s meant to be descriptive of the product benefit but is often too generic to communicate product type or use — but in this case Restore is aptly named. Restore is a lovely, lightweight serum that comes in a dark glass pump (like the ones YBF uses for its facial oils). It flows easily and absorbs wonderfully and immediately into the skin. It feels hydrating but very light, with no residue on the skin.
I’ve used Restore for just about a month now, every evening, on face and neck. (I’ll try it on my hands, though, too.) I followed it with a nighttime moisturizer (generally Dr. Dennis Gross Intense Moisture Cream, these days) and one of a couple of eye creams, per usual. I find it lives up to YBF’s claims — it’s both brightening and smoothing. I feel that my skin is handling the winter better than usual, and I’ll give Restore credit — it stays better hydrated, it feels more even and firm, and my lines don’t seem as prominent.
Restore is full of YBF’s proprietary formulations, including what seem to me to be every peptide cocktail imaginable, some vitamins — including vitamin E succinate, and hydrators such as meadowfoam seed oil and cupuacu butter. I can’t really compare the product ingredients to YBF’s Control, which is a heavy-hitting anti-aging serum that also features peptides and is a proven skin-firmer and wrinkle fighter. Control is packaged in an airless pump and has a thicker, creamier texture; I enjoyed Restore’s fluid, more lightweight feel. I think that while Control is a great product for older or more damaged skins, Restore could be used by all ages just looking for a treatment lift or a bit of prevention. I found that it worked well for me, even at 60, and could imagine effectively alternating it with Control when I felt I needed a bit more help. At $130 for 1.7 ounce (50 ml), it is a much less expensive product. But in this case less expensive isn’t inferior: I think the new Restore is a terrific and effective night serum that could benefit many age groups and skin types.

Interview with YBF founder Darrell Owens (VIDEO)
This is a real treat - a conversation with Your Best Face founder Darrell Owens. I first got to know Darrell in the early days of Truth In Aging and was intrigued to discover that he himself…
Apply a small amount to freshly cleansed, lightly damp skin and massage in. You can use Restore in conjunction with any other products such as oils, creams or lotions.

I have been using this at night and hoping it would get rid of the dark spots also. It has not gotten rid of them. I also put a small amount just on the dark spots in the AM and covering with my usual moisturizer and sunscreen. Still has not gotten rid of the dark spots. It is a good moisturizer.
Wow, am I impressed with this product. I've been using it for about a month now, but I saw results in the first few days. My 51 year old skin is brighter, smoother, softer and plumper. It works around my eyes, helping with puffiness and laxity. I put a little on my lips too. They are rosier. My forehead and dreaded "11" lines seem softer and shallower. I have a big age spot on the back of my right hand that is significantly lightened. My neck is smooth. Oh, and some nights I forget about additional cream because it's also hydrating. And I only use three pumps! When my mother asked what I'd been using, I knew I wasn't just seeing what I wanted to. Now if Mr. Owens would invent chocolate that helps you lose weight...
Hi Shalini
Vitamin E succinate in Restore, unlike other more commonly used forms of vitamin E, has a special affinity for toning and smoothing skin. Restore can be used as often as one likes, day or night as no ingredient is photosensitizing. But it can leave some skin types looking a little shiny hence better used at night.
Marta, I just started using this like a week ago and I really like how my skin feels when I wake up in the morning. I need to understand however which ingredient in the product is responsible for the "gentle resurfacing" ? Also why is the product only applied at night and not twice daily? :-)) thank you!
I was lucky to receive samples of YBF's Restore, Private Reserve Slumber Blend Oil, Correct (eye) & their Uplift Toner Mist--as part of a gift package a few weeks ago. They arrived at a time when I was looking for a nighttime skin care regimen that wouldn't take too much time and cost too much. I tried the YBF sample products adding one at a time. I started with the Correct (eye) as I have problems with eye puffiness. I found my first YBF product a resounding success.
At that point, not wanting to spend a fortune, I emailed Darrell Owens, founder of YBF who not only answered me almost immediately, but was incredibly kind, helpful, and definitely NOT trying to get me to spend any more money than was absolutely necessary. I wrote him that besides my puffy eyes, that my forehead expression lines were my two biggest facial issues (eyebrows & eyelashes not included). He recommended the Restore, particularly for my forehead & said that if I could only afford ONE of these four products, he would go for this one. In the end, I bit the bullet and bought all four at a time when Marta was having a promotion (saving me some money--gulp). I've NOT REGRETTED a single purchase.
The Restore is a marvelous product. Although it takes a bit of effort to get this silky nighttime product to sink fully into my face, combining it with just a FEW drops of the YBF Private Reserve Slumber Blend Oil makes for a perfect nighttime healing, moisturizing regimen. Interestingly, adding the Slumber Blend Oil drops does NOT make my face feel oily in the least!! I subsequently added the uplift toner mist which made my nighttime regimen complete--I sprayed it on my clean, toned face before applying the other YBF products.
In summary, if you are looking for a GREAT nighttime regimen, I HIGHLY recommend the Your Best Face Restore Night Treatment Serum. The only reason I did not give this product five stars is that application (for me) is dependent on pairing the YBF Restore with a few drops of oil; in this case, I chose the YBF Private Reserve Slumber Blend. I now wake up with significantly less deep forehead expression lines. This is the first product I've found that has made ANY change in this challenging problem. Because the forehead does not have much of a fat pad underneath it, IF I were interested in getting injections (fillers)--they would not work on my forehead. I am definitely NOT interested in getting Botox injections (can be effective on the forehead) OR plastic surgery. So, I am going to stick with Darrell Owens' YBF's Restore to work on my forehead expression lines.
I will add that since I've become a huge proponent of using topical facial Vitamin C, I AM using Skinfinite's advancedC20+ serum on selected facial discolorations, Sciote Vitamin C Eye Treatment, and another TIA Vitamin C treatment on the rest of my face...before I apply my YBF nighttime regimen. I'm not sure that this has made a visible difference since I started this last step about a week ago, but that aside, the YBF Restore, along with Darrell Owens' other YBF products noted above, make a fantastic nighttime regimen that let me awaken looking (or so I am told!!) & feeling extremely refreshed.
I can't compare the NEW Restore to the older version because I never used the original Restore. However, I can highly recommend the reformulated Restore. It is wonderful! When used in combination with YBF Oils at night, Restore really moisturizers my mature, dehydrated skin. The texture is light and silky and absorbs quickly and thoroughly. While moisturizing is extremely important, I'm very happy with the other improvements to my skin that Restore has accomplished, too.
This is a review of the NEW Restore. Over the recent holidays I received 2 free samples of the new Restore, so I was able to test it on my face & neck/decollete for about 2 weeks - using it at night. That 2 weeks was enough for me to fall in LOVE with this product!! (My skin: I'm 64 with dry, dehydrated, sensitive skin. I've had to stop using my formerly effective exfoliators and peels because they have become too harsh for my skin. And the surface texture had become less than smooth as a result.) The new Restore is lovely, feels like a light lotion, applies easily (over a damp face per instructions), absorbs extremely well - no scent. After it absorbs, your skin is obviously hydrated but matte, no oiliness or heavy feel of product sitting on top of your skin. For those of you with normal to oily skin, this product alone may suffice for treatment & hydration. For people like me with mature, dry and dehydrated skin, you may want to apply another product on top for additional moisture. Since I also received a sample of the YBF Slumber Oil blend, I used this on top of the Restore. FABULOUS combination. Lots of love for these 2 products! The Slumber oil does have a light scent, which is heavenly IMO. While testing these 2 products, I also used the YBF Uplift mist/toner after cleansing and before applying Restore. These 3 are a wonderful combination to use together and the ingredients in them are amazing. (For me, the acetyl tetrapeptide-2 in Uplevity, an ingredient in both the Restore & the Uplift toner is a bonus since it actually DOES something for my particular skin.) After the holidays, my samples ran out and TIA was not yet carrying these products. I spent several days away and neglected my healthy routines and skincare - could really see it in my face. So, I ordered the Restore and Slumber Oil from YBF and started using them again at night. My skin texture immediately returned to being smooth again, healthy looking. So - I will NOT be without these YBF products. Love, love, love!!
The all NEW Your Best Face Restore is in the shop! All comments below are for the older formula, but we can't wait to hear what you think of the newly reformulated Restore!
I really enjoyed using Restore - I loved the colour, texture and smell of the product and it definitely brightened my skin all over. I didn't break out from it either, which is a plus. I think it helped to support my never-ending quest to eradicate age-spots but unfortunately the price has led me to look elsewhere, given there are more economical vitamin C options on the market. It is, however, a quality offering from YBF.
Restore really helped my skin. It made all the fine lines diminish, this is a great mask.
Hi Marta - just wondering whether you could use this with the TIA Ultra Renew?
I got this as part of the "Discover with Marta" sampler. I actually put this one aside and was using everything else without being too impressed. Then I started using this product every am under my regular $20 moisturizer. Suddenly I notice that my skin is smoother, no more dry patches, no more whiteheads. My skin looks younger and healthier. It's the product I was hoping to discover by buying the sampler. I would note that it does best under another moisturizer, as it's more of a serum. I am crazy about the scent! Will definitely buy more of this!
Restore became my night serum. High in vitamin C, skin brighteners, and top antioxidants, this is also a multitasker that can be used to achieve brighter and more even skin tone, diminish dark spots, promote healing and improve overall complexion issues. It can also be used as an eye cream alternative. I put it to the test applying to my face and back of my hands each night before bed. Although I don’t have ‘dark spots’ per se, I do have a couple of tiny sun freckles on my face and a few I have noticed trying to take up residence on the back of my hands that I would like to send packing. In the weeks since I began using Restore I can definitely tell they are gradually fading on both face and hands and my complexion is improving.
Restore is absolutely wonderful, as I’ve said before. It’s also my nighttime cornerstone treatment. It’s finally getting the respect it deserves. YBF products, each and every one, are amazing and have a target audience with a need for what they can do.
I got a sample of this and I love it. I was wondering what that almond smell was since I didn’t see any fragrance in the ingredient list. As soon as I used it I was mentally transported back to my grandmother’s kitchen at Christmas when she used to make marzipan animals! Effective skincare, twice the size, and a bit of nostalgia thrown in…can’t beat that!
I still think that this is the best vitamin-C based serum out there--and I think I've tried them all. It is soothing and brightening, and though it is pricier than some competitive products, it really delivers more too.
decided to try it in a variety of combinations & found that I liked it best when used in addition to my moisturizer. It gave my skin more of a matte finish & seemed to make the rosacea on my cheek less noticeable. Nylon-12, one of the ingredients in Balance, is an oil absorber, which is what probably provided me with the matte finish I described.
The price is quite reasonable & I’d definitely recommend it to anyone dealing with acne, or for anyone looking for a fairly light moisturizer, which would likely be the younger folks, as we “mature” folks usually need something a bit more hydrating. The fact that I liked it best when used in combination with my existing moisturizer vs. as a stand alone product, will keep me from having it as a regular part of my daily skincare regime. My husband already complains about how long it takes me to do my skincare, so adding another product without subtracting one…well, it just wouldn’t do!
