Homosalate

Functions

An ester salicylic acid that is used as a sunscreen against UVB rays. Salicylates are weak absorbers of UVB rays and are generally used in combination with other UV filters.

Safety measures/side effects

According to the EWG it is a weak hormone disrupter.  The European Union's Scientific Committee on Consumer Products report says it was shown that the sunscreen containing 12% homosalate formulation led to slight eye irritation. Overall the report concluded that Homosalate poses no risk in respect to eye or skin irritation. Homosalate is limited to 10% in Europe.
