I was thrilled to receive my tiny, 10 ml bottle of E'shee Gene Therapy Cellular Repair Serum ($179 in the shop). With high hopes, I opened the elegant box with its magnetic hinge and skimmed the enclosed informational brochure (there are eight products from which to choose; this is #1, Rejuvenating). My hope: to see supple, glowing skin with a texture as close to a newborn as a 55-year-old might achieve (or, as the box says, “vitality, youthfulness and radiance,” and “the most youthful vibrancy.”)

Such high expectations! But with an ingredient list spanning a spectrum of the traditional (witch hazel and horse chestnut) and the 21st-century (FGF1: Recombinant Human Acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor!), it seemed plausible. I was eager to put this product to the test, which I did by applying generous drops twice a day, morning and evening. I put it on my chin, cheeks, between-brows “11” wrinkles and especially on a 50-year-old scar on my jaw.

Actually, it took me a moment to figure out how to assemble the dropper and how best to administer drops (I ended up pushing on the dropper with my finger and drawing out the amount I wanted— just a generous drop or two at a time). The clear serum has a lovely, light, herbal fragrance and its texture is both silky and a little sticky, absorbing quickly and completely.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I especially focused on any improvement to my scar (a white-rimmed crescent with an accompanying divot from a poorly healed cut as a toddler) and the overall texture of my facial skin, with its fine lines, developing deep wrinkles, large pores and general dullness. Paired with time spent outdoors, shoveling out snowstorm after New England snowstorm, sometimes in below-freezing wind chills, I asked a lot of this product, with its “most precious actives.”

The result? My skin is not particularly glowing. My scar is still (to my eye) fairly prominent — although when I asked my husband his opinion, he said, “What scar?” My pores are still there, my wrinkles somewhat. BUT my skin feels firmer, with a pleasing softness, and there’s a new smoothness overall. Some random tiny, red veins near my nose have disappeared. My skin feels calmer, overall. My mom told me that I look pretty! And I credit that to E’Shee.
