The acting career of Fran Drescher, 54, has flourished for decades, including staring in two of her own TV series and now lending her voice to the animated film Hotel Transylvania. Fran’s career and personal life has also rebounded following her battle against cancer. Of course only Fran, with her uniquely recognizable nasal giggle and Yiddish terminology, could have started the Cancer Schmancer Movement, whose goal is to educate women about cancer prevention. As part of this philosophy, the actress encourages healthier beauty practices – something that I, as an eco-beauty expert myself, can really get behind. In honor of Fran’s new movie, I want to walk you through a makeup how-to on getting the stunning look shown, which she wore on the red carpet at the AFI Life Achievement Awards.
If you resemble Fran with brunette hair, brown eyes and a golden-olive skin tone, pay attention! For the rest of you, you may have to tweak the colors just slightly – be it lighter or darker – to achieve a similar look. This is indeed a very doable, wearable and classic look for women of any age.
Foundation: Her look is definitely matte and shine free. Somewhat like the women of the 1950s would have worn. In this case, I would highly suggest using a powder, such as a mineral foundation from Alima Pure, to achieve a similar effect.
Eyebrows: While Ms. Drescher may be a brunette, you’ll notice her eyebrows are about two shades lighter than her natural hair color. The arch is well defined, and again, reminiscent of the 50s. Watch the video below for tips on coloring in your brows.
Eyeshadow: Use a light, matte pink shade and sweep it all over the eyelid up to the brow bone. On the outer 1/3 of the eye, brush on a warm terracotta shade, like Camel from Ecco Bella, from the lashes up to the crease moving outward in the direction of the temples. Blend in very gently to the midsection of the eye so there are no harsh start-and-stop points.
Eyeliner: Line the upper lid with a charcoal gray pencil (or black for extra drama in the evening). Stop before getting to the inner 1/3 of the eye, so it doesn’t look too heavy. The outer 1/3 of the lid can have a thicker line if the lid allows for it.
Lashes: Mascara alone will not create the effect of lush lashes. So if you are handy with gluing on false lashes, then this is the time to do it! Again, keep the emphasis on the outer 2/3 of the lash line. Follow with more mascara on the top and bottom.
Cheeks: A noticeably flushed pink cheek is what helps make this look pop! Find a hue that is almost red to create a similar effect and concentrate your application on the apples of the cheek. Be sure to blend so you don’t look like a doll. Colors I prefer are Old Rose by Couleur Caramel and Geranium by Alima Pure.
Lips: Define the whole lip with an orange-pink colored pencil like Mali by Primitive, which plays off the eye and cheek color. Then fill in with a gloss like Vibe from Revolution Organics.
By now you should look like the picture of beauty and feel great about wearing cosmetics that help you maintain the picture of health too!
