A little background: My skin is oily, especially around the T-zone area. Unfortunately, during the winter months, I have a problem with my chin and eyebrow bones drying and flaking. My concern was hydrating my problematic skin just in my trouble areas. I am happy to say I will be turning 52 in January! I am a middle school teacher (I know) and involved in the local community theatre scene. It is a comfort to know that I am still able to play characters in their 30s! Sometimes I am told I am “too young” to play a part that’s designated for someone in their 40s. What a boost to my ego! My daily routine consists of using Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser (Normal to Oily Skin) with a Clairsonic Mia, using squalane in certain areas and changing my makeup and skin care regimen according to the seasons.

When I first opened the bottle of Sciote Peptide + Defense Firming Day Crème ($80 in the shop), the smell immediately reminded me of Caudalie Paris, which uses resveratrol in its formulas. That’s red wine to you and me! The creme had a slight smell that, to me, was not over-powering. If anything, it urged me to have some cheese, crackers and a nice glass of wine!

The ingredients include organic aloe vera (improves hydration while soothing the skin), a peptide complex blend (proprietary blend of amino acids and hydrators), and Hyalurosmooth (a botanically derived hyaluronic acid that provides intense moisturization, enhances radiance and reduces fine lines and wrinkles by plumping and smoothing the skin’s surface). According to Sciote, “The benefits of our Peptide Complex Blend are in this light matte crème formulation. With efficient moisturization via Hyaluronic acid, as well as non-comedogenic jojoba oil and half a dozen unique botanical actives, this Peptide Complex moisturizer is what you have been looking for to help promote elasticity and firmness to your skin.”

The consistency was very smooth and non-greasy. I don’t know if it firmed up anything –  I haven’t seen a difference in that department. But it did moisturize my face to the point that I didn’t have to use makeup! Given the fact that I use squalane on a daily basis, I might be inclined to try the Sciote Firming Youth Crème ($90 in the shop) for face, neck and décolleté instead.

To date, I’ve been using this product twice a day. I use one pump in the morning and one pump in the evening, always after I’ve cleansed my face, and then I put on the squalane and other serums.

I am happy to say that my skin looked great after the first week of using the creme. In fact, several times I did not put makeup on! As a teacher to middle school students, that’s a risk I’m willing to take! I don’t know if I would invest $80 for this since I have dry skin only during the winter months. But since it works, and is in a bottle that does not expose its contents to light, this crème might last longer that one season.
