As winter was coming to an end, my skin had barely survived the colder-than-usual temperatures. It was immensely dry and dull and begged for a new product. I had never heard of Sciote, but I loved the meaning of the word — “know thyself.” Being a new product in the Truth In Aging community and from a company that purports to be environmentally conscious and ingredient savvy, I was eager to test the Sciote Peptide+Defense Firming Youth Serum ($105 in the shop).
In addition to dry and dull skin, at 43, I have developed melasma over the past few years. I’ve taken exceptional care of my skin for the past 20 years, so it’s a bit upsetting to see these vast changes that need definite help. Taking care of the dryness seemed the first order of business. Sciote emphasizes it’s amazing combination of peptides, which are moisture-biding agents that communicate with cells to help skin repair itself, and hyaluronic acid, which heightens the ability to retain moisture in dry, mature skin, in addition to smoothing out fine lines. I noticed this taking place after only a few short weeks! It was subtle at first, but grew more noticeable with each subsequent week.
Along with the hydration function of this serum, it also boasts Matrixyl 3000 to encourage collagen and elastin production. Sciote blends all of these amino acids with a variety of plant ingredients. I’m so happy to get an even complexion along with an ever-so-slight plumping of areas of my skin, which normally look a little saggy. Although the melasma has not been mitigated at all, the general blending out of my skin tone and softening of other discoloration has helped my face as a whole look more even. The melasma is there but without the same intensity.
I am diligent about using chemical/toxin free products. This product comes very close to meeting my standard, with so many amazing ingredients, but with sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate, it doesn’t quite pass. However, after using this serum both morning and night for four weeks, I can definitively say this product has positively changed the surface of my skin. It is more hydrated, less dull, smoothed out and even-toned. It looks and feels calm and even… youthful! It’s actually a treat to apply it! The pump delivers a perfect amount, with one small dollop for each side of my face and neck. It has a neutral scent and a clean, soft, very subtle cooling texture. It dries right away, and although it’s inherently hydrating, I do need to put facial oil on top of it to get the immediate need of a moisturizer.
If it weren’t for a few of the toxic ingredients in Sciote, I’d definitely use this again and again, as well as try out other products in the line.

I would love to comment on Michelle's review on this wonderful product from Sciote. It's just goes to show you that sometimes it's just a personal preference. I love the Youth serum and from the review I read from Cindy in May, she does too! I just think this was not the product for you but it is one I will keep on using because my skin looks and feels amazing!
