TIA Review by Ann:
Arcona Pumpkin Lotion 10% is a strong and effective treatment for exfoliating and rejuvenating areas of your body other than your face. This is not a body lotion, nor is it particularly moisturizing. The 10% refers to glycolic acid, which can be very irritating and harsh if not used carefully. I personally don’t have particularly sensitive skin and the 10% concentration was definitely strong enough to see marked results.

This is not a wimpy formulation; it contains very few ingredients and each is determined to do a thorough job. Glycolic acid is the second ingredient, followed closely by pumpkin ferment, another AHA. These two strong exfoliators and lighteners are balanced with oils for calming, healing and antioxidant protection. Fructooligosaccharides provide collagen building and moisture retention. Clove oil, an anti-bacterial ingredient recommended for helping with acne, can also be found among the list of ingredients.

The directions say to use this lotion daily, and I started out following them but had to reduce my use as it was too strong for everyday use. If I’d shaved my legs - whoo! It would sting upon application. My decollete would be left irritated and rashy. While my skin was feeling softer and firmer, it was also dry. Every third day worked best for me.

I found that if I added a few drops of argan oil to the treatment, it had great results. The next day my skin was glowing. I would recommend trying this the night before you have to wear a swimsuit.

Pumpkin Lotion gets right to work on shrinking pores, diminishing age spots and even lessening body creases and wrinkles. My forearms got quite a bit of sun this summer, and I was less than diligent about applying sunscreen. As a result, I had quite a bit of freckling, dryness and hyperpigmentation. This treatment felt like I was taking an eraser to my arms. My knees look plumper and my chest is smoother.

I have only one gripe - the fragrance. It smells like a scented candle. And not like when you walk past one of those candle stores - it’s like you have your nose in the jar. It lasts for a while too. It helped to add the argan oil. Although that doesn’t have a fragrance, it lessened the pumpkin lotion’s aroma.

I am familiar with the Arcona product line and have used its products for a few years now. The brand doesn’t seem to cut corners and uses only what is necessary in each product. I recommend the pumpkin lotion 10% with two thumbs up. Just remember that a little goes a long way.

This lotion has entered my arsenal as one of the "things that work for a specific area"; I am not using it as an all-over body treatment as a general rule. Call me crazy, but I use this on my elbows and knees, which places its price point into a very reasonable range. I apply this at night (sometimes in the morning as well) and then apply sunscreen or moisturizer on top of it. I have no problems with absorption -- I think it absorbs beautifully, and a little seems to go a long way. And while the fragrance is very strong, I do not find it off-putting enough not to consider that I will be using this on more areas of my body during the colder months to see how larger areas fare. I'm a fan of what glycolic acid does for my skin, and I'm happy to have found a product that's meant for areas other than the face.

This lotion is absolutely brilliant. I have some rough patches on my forearms that I've been trying for ages to get rid of, but nothing has worked. Until I got this lotion. I've been using it nightly for a month and I'm astounded at the difference in my skin. I honestly feel like a magic eraser has removed all of the tough patches and replaced it with smooth, soft, amazingly even-toned skin. I'm a real skeptic sometimes when it comes to skincare products, but this is the best purchase I've made in years. Really would recommend for anyone with some targeted areas that could benefit from gentle exfoliation that leads to some radical change.

  • Hi Cheryl, it is best to use any glycolic product at night since it increases sun sensitivity. Experiment with what works for you, especially regarding how often you use it - a couple of times a week, rather than daily may be enough. If you feel the need to add a moisturizer it should be after the Arcona Pumpkin 10%.

  • I just purchased Arcona Pumpkin 10%. Question: Do I use it only at night? Do I put a moisturizer on after or before? Not sure how best to accomplish skin improvement with this. I have dry skin and am in the sun quite a lot.

I've been using Arcona Pumpkin Lotion for the past two months or so on my lower legs and upper arms, but not every single day. The scent is very strong - yankee candle pumpkin pie strength - which some may not like, but I'm personally quite fond of.

My lower legs are noticeably less dry but it's my upper arms where I've really seen the difference - the little white bumps and ingrowing hairs are massively improved and I think if I used it more religiously and for longer, they might be altogether gone, so I'll definitely be purchasing a second bottle. .

    I absolutely love this product.

What a find this is! I've become a bit obsessed about finding a body lotion with glycolic (I've even been improvising with Lather's glycolic mask) and now I have found it. This tingles on application, but only lasts a few moments and my skin is not irritated by it at all. It is great for clarifying dry skin, smoothing wrinkles and I'll be interested to see if it can help with sun damage over time. I do agree with Ann about the fragrance but it isn't enough to put me off. This body lotion gives results and is my new go-to.

    Hi,
I made the mistake of using this daily for a little over a week. I used it on my sagging neck and dry lined décolleté, and oh my did I suffer for it! I tried everything I could find to soothe the redness and irritation. It was itching and burning and nothing seemed to give any relief. I should add that I thought it was going along fairly well to start out for those several days as it didn't seem to have any adverse reaction, until I woke up one morning to what felt and looked worse than a sunburn.
So I obviously had overdone it, and would highly suggest not using this product more than for times a week. I should also add I do not have sensitive skin in the least and had never had this type of reaction from any products including professional deep peels. Just a word of caution, start out slow and don't get over zealous like I did. I think I'll save it for elbows and knees.

    Hi Barbara
This is a fairly strong formulation. It tingles notably when first applied to the skin - and that's the body, not my sensitive face. I know that I couldn't put this anywhere near my face, but if you are used to strong glycolics you could give it a try. The other thing worth mentioning is that the texture is dense and takes a bit of rubbing in - again a good thing for the decollete or arms, but might be unpleasant on the face.

Why can't this be used on the face?

I haven't tried Ann's tip yet of using it with Private Reserve - sounds like a brilliant idea that I will definitely follow up.
