La Vie Celeste has
a new rich moisturizer (I had the privilege of trying the prototype and loved it) and upgraded its eye cream. Both feature an active called
ChroNOline, based on a relatively new peptide called caprooyl tetrapeptide-3. I mentioned it in my
review of SenZen’s Infinity, in which it is also. Looking at ChroNOline again, I realize it is worthy of a bit more attention and that all you peptide-files out there should have it on your radar.
To appreciate the potential antiaging role of caprooyl tetrapeptide-3, you need to know some skin basics as well as the wonderful world of laminin. Skin is composed of the epidermis and the dermis and the two are separated by something called the epidermal basement membrane. This membrane plays an important role in maintaining the skin structure by keeping everything anchored in place. The basement membrane is anti-sag.
Laminins are proteins that are the structural foundations of most cells and organs and are vital for the survival of tissue. But we are mostly interested in laminin 5. This is a glycoprotein and that plays a key role in the epidermal basement membrane. In fact, it is critical in keeping the epidermis adhered to the dermis. Japanese researchers found that by stimulating laminin 5 synthesis, the formation of the basement membrane is given a significant boost.
And this is where caprooyl tetrapeptide-3 comes in. It is derived from a growth factor, namely TGF-ß and stimulates production of laminin 5 (as well as collagen VII). Tetrapeptide-3 is also supposed to be pretty good at beefing up fibronectin (by 60% apparently). Fibronectin funtions in ways that are similar to laminins. However, it also plays a crucial in wound healing and decreased levels are associated with various cancers. It was established in the early 80s that it is critical to healthy skin.
ChroNOline is a concoction of caprooyl tetrapeptide-3, dextran,
glycerin and water. According to the manufacturer of, (there’s never an independent research on these peptides), it increases collagen lll by 34% as well as laminin production by 26% and laminin 5 by 49%. Overall,
wrinkles were reduced by 16% in 28 days.
Now that you are inspired to look out for your laminins, you’ll be glad to know that come in a cool cross-shape as well..

This kind of info appeals greatly to my nerdy alter-ego, which is the side of me that most often governs what products I buy. But I continue to be totally confused by "growth factors" and why some are so expensive and others are not, and what the different actions are.
If Chronoline is derived from a peptide in TGF-Beta, wouldn't this ingredient be inherently present in the formula for Reviva TGF-Beta 1 moisturizer?
I would be excited to find an ingredient, other than DMAE, that delays or improves sagging, but how to pick the best product?
