La Vie Celeste Exfoliating Mother of Pearl Cleanser is an all-natural, non-foaming cleanser that uses Mother of Pearl along with pink and white clays to gently cleanse, exfoliate and soothe for a clearer complexion. This product achieves the rare feat of thoroughly purifying skin and removing every trace of makeup without over-stripping your complexion, leaving your face nourished, soothed and, most importantly, clean. Other members of the Truth In Aging community have already reviewed and recommend this product, so you can try it yourself without any doubt that it’ll be effective!

Free of soap, detergent, oils, fragrance and parabens, this non-comedogenic, silky cleanser is designed to leave skin soft, silky and hydrated. Antioxidants including tea, apple, gingko biloba and ginseng extracts fight free radicals and brighten your skin. This formula is non-irritating and suitable for all skin types, even sensitive.

Directions:
Apply a dime size amount to damp skin in the AM and PM. Cleanse using gentle circular motions. Rinse.

TIA Review by Marta:
La Vie Celeste's cleanser has almost creamy texture that enables it to be massaged into the skin for a few luxurious moments before rinsing off. Doing so reveals a clean (but not squeakily so) complexion and skin that is lovely and soft to the touch.

The clays work as gentle exfoliators and pore closers, which is obvious really and makes me wonder why they aren't used in cleansers more often.

Mother of pearl is an important ingredient. It is also called nacre. Along with various amino acids and minerals, pearl is made up of calcium carbonate crystals and the protein conchiolin. Conchiolin is what gives pearls their rainbow-like luminescence, and is the primary source for this ingredient's anti-aging claims. As documented in the Journal of Cell Biology in 2006, conchilion acts like the protein keratin (which is found in skin, bones and hair), and has the ability to hydrate skin cells, promote skin cell metabolism, facilitate repair of damaged skin cells, and enhance peripheral circulation.

This cleanser doesn't stop there. Antioxidants also play a key role in the form tea, apple, gingko biloba and ginseng extracts. Better still, there are no nasty foaming agents (this is not a sudsy cleanser) or anything else to dislike.

Our Take...

I don’t think I have come across a facial cleanser with clay as an ingredient before. Masks, of course, but not a cleanser. The clays (there are two) give La Vie Celeste’s Restorative Mother Of Pearl Exfoliating Cleanser ($40 in the TIA shop) an almost creamy texture that enables it to be... Read Full Article

I'm on my third bottle of this cleanser which I use in the shower some mornings, alternating with what's left of my reluma and my sweetsation cleansers. I choose La Vie Celeste when I want to 'normalise' my skin if that makes sense. It's nice and calming and deep cleansing in a very gentle way. My skin feels very smooth after using it. When I run out of my other cleansers which are no longer available, I'll be sticking with this.

Expensive, but worth a splurge as a 3x/week or so product. I appreciate this product the most when it's used the morning after an overnight exfoliating treatment; I feel like any dead skin shed is removed. I also love to mix this cleanser with another cleanser with foaming agents (since this one has none) for a little boost to each product.

This gentle, non-lathering cleanser has a gorgeous coral color and silky texture, and leaves skin the perfect balance of clean and hydrated.

Unfortunately, it didn't really work for me. It didn't feel like it exfoliated enough to be used alone, but it has a very fluid texture that didn't work well for me using it with a clarisonic and also felt like I was using a lot at once. With those issues, and the pretty high price for a small bottle I won't be repurchasing.

If you have sensitive skin or your skin does not need a lot of exfoliation (or you prefer to use a separate exfoliator) this may well be a great cleanser for you.

I bought this when it became clear that I needed to ditch my foaming facial cleanser I had been using for something gentler (pregnancy hormones dry out my skin!). The formula is truly unique. Clay is exfoliating, but don't expect a grainy, scrubbing feel to this cleanser. Its texture is definitely creamy. Using this cleanser plus La Vie Celeste's Day and Night Cream cleared up all my patchy dryness; however, I think I can still keep the dryness at bay using a cleanser that costs a little less (I'm sticking to the Day and Night Cream, though!), thus the three stars. I'm saving my money for the moisturizer!

I absolutely LOVE this cleanser! I remove all my eye make up with coconut oil first, then use this along with my clarisonic. Its not a "heavy duty" cleanser as I still get a little makeup off with my toner and cotton ball but my skin can't handle anything that suds up anyway. I use to think I had dry/acne prone skin but now I think I've just been using products that dry my skin out which caused the acne. After switching to this cleanser the dryness went away and my skin stopped breaking out. I have yet to find a La Vie Celeste product I don't love!

La Vie Celeste Exfoliating Mother of Pearl Cleanser is a nice cleanser. I enjoyed using it but not sure if I would buy again. There are other cleansers that I like in comparison to the results delivered. But it is a good cleanser for my dry skin. I found it easy to use.

I love this cleanser. It cleans my face well, washes off easily and cleanly and doesn't dry out or irritate my skin. In fact, the cleanser seems to make my skin softer and smoother - perhaps due to the gentle exfoliating effect by the clays. It plays well with my Clarisonic too and doesn't sting my eyes. The absence of foam doesn't bother me as I've been using non-foaming cleansers for a while and in general I find them less drying. I only hope La Vie Celeste continues (and continues) to produce it and TIA continues to stock it!

I purchased this after so many TIA articles recommended it and have been using it for one week. Already, I love it and plan to continue using it. I'll be 40 this year and have good skin with few problems other than dryness that I experienced this winter (for the first time ever!). I'm starting to get fine lines, though, so I'm interested in anti-aging products. This cleanser leaves my skin silky smooth. The pores on my nose are definitely reduced after I use it (both by itself in the morning and used with my Clarisonic in the evenings). I like the creamy consistency, and the smell is very pleasant. I consider this a good investment in keeping my skin looking good. My only complaint is that I can't use this to remove my eye makeup like I could with my previous cleanser (argan cleansing oil), but I'm willing to overlook the extra step of using a makeup remover first because I know this cleanser is so good for my skin. Thanks, TIA, for recommending this!

Incredible product - I guess I can now retire my skinsonic cleaning brush. I'm amazed that this cleanser removes everything from my pores and then closes them back up. A complete and pleasant surprise to me because I've never experienced this from any cleanser before. Love the feel of this cleanser when I massage it on my face and truly appreciate the way it makes my skin look after rinsing. (I have mature, dry and sometimes sensitive skin). What a great product for me! Thanks TIA for making this available to us.

I really enjoyed the creamy texture and skin brightening effects of this cleanser. After 3 months use, the results were noticeable. I have fair, moderately sun damaged, sensitive skin, prone to irritation and occasional breakouts. This cleanser kept my skin redness and acne free. I also found it effective at removing light make up (a sprinkling of powder and a dab of concealer) . But for heavier make-up, a richer oil based cleanser was required. My only real negative, was the packaging. I like products to look attractive on my bathroom shelf. But, the thin plastic bottle, developed an unattractive dent over time and the bottle top, with its tiny opening, kept getting blocked.

  • Hi Brenna
I am sorry you are not liking this. It is very unusual and you have to get into a different mindset. This doesn't foam at all - this is pointed out in the product description. But it does cleanse and even remove makeup. The ingredients are so good that it is worth trying to get used to it. You could even add a tiny amount of your regular cleanser to it, so that it foams a bit.

my skin is definitely glowing after a few weeks of using this cleanser. i also use la vie celeste's night cream and ybf facial oil, so those products may also be contributing to the current great state of my skin.

there are some areas on my face that are lightly peeling (re-newing?). my acne is also starting to fade away. my cheeks are fairly red recently, but maybe this is part of the re-newing process.

the product tingles in a good way after a few moments of application. i use it with my clarisonic and have noticed that my skin is getting softer + clearer.

    highly recommend.

Just wanted to pass a hint onto some of the men on here. I’ve been using the La Vie Celeste Mother of Pearl cleanser as a shave lotion. I’ve never gotten a smoother shave. No irritation, no razor burn, no tugging on my beard, and the best part, you only need a dime amount size on your palm – better yet, you only need to let is stay on for 30 seconds and shave. I usually have to leave regular shave cream on for a lot longer. Try it!

I have been using La Vie Celeste for a short time now and my results are allready just amazing to me. The surface of my skin is re-newing. Its brighter, tighter and just overall more youthful. I am a male who enjoys taking care of himself, including my skin. LVC is very affordable, easy to use and I don’t have to buy alot of products. I have a clenser/toner/face cream. Simple. Thanks to Joe for his recomendation. Works GREAT !
