Making sure to always use a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen on a daily basis is the most important thing that we can do to preserve and protect our skin. Nowadays, the choices available based on skin-loving active ingredients, the SPF factor and the formula base (mineral, chemical or mixed) are wide and growing at a rapid rate. The plethoric selection of good-quality sunscreens from reputable skincare and cosmetic companies is staggering!
The MD Solar Sciences Mineral Tinted Crème SPF 30 is the first of its kind that I can now say I have personally used and worn on my face and neck areas. Developed and approved by dermatologists, it is non-comedogenic, fragrance free, water resistant (up to 30 minutes) and suitable for all skin types. The active ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
MD Solar Sciences has created a proprietary blend of antioxidants trademarked as “ProVentin-R,” which has a cutting-edge liposome delivery system, pigment lighteners, biomimetic moisturizers (meaning, based on natural processes found in biological systems), humectants and science-based signaling peptides. Translation summation: this is a hardcore, heavy-hitting anti-aging multitasking sunscreen that is worth checking out. Especially, if you’re a fan of BB creams and fancy a thin and light touch and feel.
I am quite impressed with this product’s ingredients and dynamic anti-aging benefits, as any baby boomer would be. However, I am not enamored by the tinted color or consistency. I actually prefer a little bit heavier and creamier moisturizing sunscreen — minus the tint. The color is a neutral light beige tone and the product leaves you with a slightly luminous, yet matte finish. The lightness of the fluid (the instructions state to shake the tube before applying) will most certainly appeal to those with younger and/or oilier skin, as well as those mature users who prefer lighter coverage and color. Those who don’t may feel the need to use a foundation layered over it.
A radiant and light-diffusing makeup finish, providing moderate to full coverage, is the signature look that I am always after, so I always use a foundation over my sunscreen. Hence, the reason why I would not choose to use this particular product, but would instead love to try an untinted version. It could possibly be worn over if this product was reformulated with a creamier and more luxurious feel and heavier coverage — along with two or three other color options. For myself, I would need a deeper tone one or two shades darker than this universal one-size-fits-all color. The neutral light beige color is more suitable for those with fair/light to light medium skin tones.
With my sensitive skin and aversion to the unnecessary use of chemicals in all products, I will always opt for a fragrance-free mineral-based sunscreen. Just give me a little extra veil of moisture and thickness to de-age and hide flaws — with or without a correct match of color — and I am super-shielded and good to go!

Titanium Dioxide 1.5%, Zinc Oxide 17%. Apply liberally and uniformly to all exposed areas 15-20 minutes before sun exposure. Rub in well. Reapply often (every 2 hours) and after swimming, excessive perspiration and washing.

I live in sunny Santa Barbara, California, and hike in the mountains every day. I have been using MD Solar Sciences Mineral Tinted Creme SPF 30 every day on my face and neck for several years and think it is marvelous. Actually it's bloody marvelous.
I have never burnt or even turned red despite hot, sunny hikes and walks on the beach. It hasn't given me any break outs and it goes on like a dream. In fact I never bother with foundation any more because the tint is subtle and it gives enough coverage to look natural whilst protecting the delicate skin on my face. I use it because it is one of the top choices of the EWG with very few nasties and a great overall score:

I absolutely love this sunscreen! I have fair skin and while using it I don't get burned at all, even after 5-6 hours outside. It glides on so smoothly and rubs in effortlessly. I was skeptical about the tint but it just blends in beautifully. I have used it with makeup and on makeup free days and I am thrilled to finally find a great mineral sunscreen with no white tint.

I had been a fan of this sunscreen long before it came to the TIA store. I use it for running and it keeps me protected and evens out my skin tone. However, the new formula seems quite different than its predecessor. It makes my face feel like I covered it in olive oil. It looks good but feels so greasy. I will continue to use it for running since it gets the job done and gives me some color when I don't have makeup on, but I won't use it for "no makeup" days otherwise.
