When asked to review Eight Skincare Body Softening Oil in Ginger Lime ($22), I was quite ready to try it. I live in Wisconsin, where our winters are long, and it has not been the best year thus far — it has been extremely cold with plenty of snow. I am 54-years-old and am always searching for good products that are skin-friendly, and find that oils work best for me. My skin is sensitive and I am prone to eczema so I am pretty picky about the oils used.
I was pleasantly surprised when I received the Body Softening Oil in the mail due to all of the wonderful essential oils in it. The ones that stand out are evening primrose and avocado oil which contain vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, beta carotene, and omega 3 and 6. Safflower, coconut, sweet almond and jojoba oil are a few of the others, which are all great for the skin. The directions said to apply to dry skin after showering, and while I normally apply oil to damp skin, I wanted to do exactly as the directions said. A little went a long way and I suppose a lot of the application has to do with the condition and dryness of your skin at the time. It absorbed quickly and the ginger lime scent was very energizing and pleasant. You could feel the oil on your skin, yet I did not find it oily. The scent dissipated after 20 to 30 minutes so there were no worries about messing up my favorite fragrances. I thought it went on like silk, absorbed nicely, and made my skin feel soft all day long. It was a very good product for me.
I was curious as to where the "Eight" came from and found that the CEO of Eight Skincare is Vicki Weaver-Payne. Her mother, Ida Wanda Burns, worked in an airplane factory in 1944 and hence had extremely dry skin. She started to experiment with different ingredients and created a lotion that was used by her and her fellow airplane hangar workers. Vicki also had extremely dry skin and discovered her mother's lotion to have eight core ingredients: aloe vera, vitamin E, jojoba oil, evening primrose oil, monoi oil, sweet almond oil, argan oil and apricot kernel oil. Vicki then began developing natural scents along with a skincare regimen to help eliminate dry skin. Her system includes a body brush for dry brushing the skin prior to using the collection of body washes, scrubs, lotions and oils. It is definitely something I would invest my money in.
Overall, if I were giving stars, this one would get all 5! I loved it and I did not feel the $22 was an extravagant amount to pay. It has lasted the full 4 weeks with a little still leftover. I look forward to trying more of this line.
