Sciote's Firming Body Lotion is a wonderfully hydrating lotion that helps improves skin hydration and flexibility, while improving the appearance of cellulite. Formulated with grape seed oil to protect collagen in the skin, and squalane to reduce transdermal water loss, this firming body treatment is an excellent option to improve the appearance of dry, flaky skin.
Three luscious scents:
GIRA SOLE:
Crisp & Clean notes of Yuzu, Grapefruit and Italian Blood Orange, with a hint of Red Ginger and Green Tea.
POSITANO:
Rich & Luscious notes of Red Currant, Italian Thyme and Cassis with a hint of Lime and Black Tea.
TAORMINA:
Fresh & Sweet notes of Pomegranate, Sweet Pea and Italian Orange Blossom with a hint of Neroli and Red Tea.
TIA Review by Gretchen:
The Sciote Firming Body Lotion contains a healthy salad of ingredients, including organic cold-pressed avocado, organic coconut, sunflower and pumpkin seed oils, plus comfrey, cucumber, elder and mallow extracts, all of which heal, moisturize and calm the skin. Antioxidant-rich grape seed oil protects collagen and prevents damage from free radicals. Organic shea and aloe heal and hydrate and olive squalane forms a protective barrier to seal all that good stuff in and prevent loss of moisture in the skin.
It is offered in three fragrances: Gira Sole, Postiano and Taormina. The last of these was the scent of my sample — a combination of pomegranate, sweet pea, Italian orange blossom, neroli and red tea. It has a lightly citrus scent, but the floral and herbal notes prevent it from being overly tart. It's a more sophisticated scent than most body lotions. But the real question is whether it really, truly firms up skin.
The headliner ingredient in Sciote Firming Body Lotion is glaucine, which is said to stimulate lipolysis, which aids in diminishing fat cells and the appearance of cellulite. Collagen, as you know, produces the firm, smooth skin of youth while fat cells trapped within a netting of collagen create the rippled and dimpled skin effect called cellulite. As we age, we lose collagen and our skin becomes thinner, which makes the cellulite more noticeable.
The Sciote lotion is really quite lovely to use. It is light but has enough slip to massage it in, as is directed. The first day I used it, the desert-like cracks and flakes disappeared and a very subtle sheen developed that imparted a smoother, younger look to my skin. The second day, I noticed the flakiness had not returned, and that was before I even applied the lotion — quite a feat during a below-zero, over-heated and dry Minnesota winter. Also impressive was how it nearly banished a few visible scaly patches I've had on my upper arms for years. I'm over 50, and this is something no other lotion I've tried has done before.
What I didn't see was firmer skin or a reduction in the appearance of cellulite. However, the fact that my skin looked hydrated and healthy did make it look younger. So, is it hype or hope? I did some research, and some studies have shown that glaucine actually does work on converting fat cells into elastic-like fibers, but evidence was limited.
That said, I believe Sciote Firming Body Lotion made my skin look healthier and more hydrated with immediately noticeable and lasting results. It is light and pleasing to use, and while I loved the scent, a version without fragrance would be a welcome addition to the product line. Alas, it did not firm my skin.
