TIA Review by Marta:
I don't usually like tinted moisturizers as they seem to be a full of chemicals and ultimately a compromise that doesn't really work. I'm not wild about foundations either, finding that they are too thick and matte and make me look old and dry. Because I rarely give up on a good prejudice, I have decided that Suki's Tinted Active Moisturizer isn't a tinted moisturizer at all, but a sheer foundation with things that are good for you.

Sheer is the operative word, at least with the Natural tint that I chose. Suki is no cover up, but my skin was looking rather better by being a bit more evened out. And for me, who finds most makeup tantamount to being forced to wear a rubber mask, the greatest pleasure is that it is so featherlight as to not be there. This is makeup for people who don't like makeup.

There are all manner of nice oils, including antioxidant grape seed. But I particularly like the inclusion of borage oil, proven by German scientists to reduce skin redness and wrinkles. Willow bark is useful too as it is often used as a natural (though weaker) alternative to salicylic acid, because it controls sebum production and provides anti-acne properties. Hazelnut oil is a good emollient, while lecithin improves the homeostatasis (the ability to regulate itself) of the skin.

Love the smell and feel of it. You need use 1 whole pump for the whole face. Otherwise it dries up pretty quick if you try to use a half pump or less. I don't use powder so it does feel like it rubs off easily. I do use a serum underneath. I am fair and Asian and natural works for me.

This is a really great product to help even out skin tone and give a more finished appearance to the skin. I love how my face looks and feels when I have it on. My only complaint has to do with the limited shades: I am very fair and porcelain is, unfortunately, too dark for me. Otherwise, I recommend it if you are looking for a product that gives light coverage.

I received samples of this tinted moisturizer in the color Natural and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! My skin is fair/medium in tone and this color just brings it to life. This gives a beautiful sheer coverage which I love and doesn't settle into my lines - WOW......

Since I am 62, I use serums and moisturizer before applying any makeup, so, unlike another reviewer, I had no problem with the application of the Suki product. For me, it spread very easily and I thought it had a very nice consistency. Perfect for a nice, even sheer coverage. Where I have dark circles and blemishes, I just used some concealer on top of the Suki and it worked beautifully for me.

This is not a heavy product like foundation. I have pretty much given up foundations because they all seem to emphasize and settle into lines and wrinkles at my age. If you want just a beautiful tint that makes your skin look healthy, I'd highly recommend this.

(Note - the natural color seems like it would be very versatile for many different colors of skin from fair/medium to dark skin. If you're extremely fair, I see Suki has a porcelain color also.)

I love many other Suki products and after using the moisturising lotion for a while I thought I might give this ago, having never used a tinted moisturiser before. I bought the 'natural' colour. This tinted moisturiser is ok, it doesnt give bad coverage but I still need to use concealer afterwards to touch up little blemishes and spots.

The thing I dont like about this is how thick it is and how difficult it is to apply correctly. I found that my face needs to be fairly damp still from my toner for me to apply the moisturiser smoothly to my face. Even then I am required to take a cotton pad wet with water to blend and remove streaks around the side of my face, under my chin and around my eyes/eyebrows. That is why I have given this only 3 starts.

For these reasons I wouldnt buy this again and would stick with my concealer and mineral makeup powder which gives me a better finish and is way easier to apply.

    Hi Marta,

I was contemplating getting the suki-tinted-active-moisturizer, but I must say I almost changed my mind when I read your review. I was very put off that my favorite pure-as-an-angel skin care line would stick "something you'd clean the floor with" in their products!

However, a closer look (I went on their website and got the list of ingredients) revealed an absence of sodium borate in their formula:
"organic roses (rosa centifolia) infused in filtered water (aqua/eau), organic sunflower seed (helianthus annuus) oil, 100% natural beeswax (cera alba), organic grapeseed (vitis vinifera), jojoba seed (simmondsia chinensis), hazelnut (corylus americano) & borage (borago officinalis) oils, cetearyl alcohol, organic fair trade shea butter (butyrospermum parkii), standardized white willow bark (salix alba) extract, food-grade non-gmo lecithin (lecithin), natural vitamin c (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate) & retinol (polypeptide liposomes) polypeptide liposomes, organic rose (rosa caninca) extract, food-grade xanthan (xanthan) & arabic (acacia catechu) gums, aroma (pure steam distilled essential oils), geraniol, linalool [may contain: titanium dioxide, iron oxides]."

It appears as though they changed the formula for the better!

I, too, dislike foundations very much and prefer minimal coverage. I have been using Jane Iredale Tinted Mineral Moisturizer, but still had to retouch the T-zone with powder through the day. JI Moisurizer had done nothing to improve my skin, but it hasn't damaged it either.
I have been using SUKI Tinted Active Moisturizer since August'09 - my skin definitely improved: balanced, no breakouts. The moisturizer itself feels fantastic on the skin - you cannot even tell, it's there. And the color... It really makes you glow. I mix it with a dab of SUKI Active Moisturizer and it blends right in with my fair skin.
I am definitely repurchasing. Also, look into SUKI Nourishing Moisture - very light, but highly moisturizing oil with all kinds of wonderful ingredients. I use it day and night in summer, and NEVER feel greasy (I have classic combination skin).
