TIA Review by Marta:
E'shee's products are almost ostentatiously simple. There are rarely more than a handful of ingredients and there will be at least one hard-hitting and cutting-edge active. In the case of Serum Intensive Brightening, it is an unusual anti-hyperpigmentation active. And one that actually seems to work- and more impressively - than other skin lighteners that I have tried.
It is called m-tranexamic acid and It inhibits UV induced hyperpigmentation and melanocyte activity. It works best on localized areas of irregular melanin distribution- such as a melasma patch or a dark spot-rather than lightening the overall skin tone.
Most of the research on m-tranexamic acid- which is a derivative of the amino acid lysine- is on its role in reducing heavy bleeding. Surprisingly, the mechanism by which it reduces bleeding and age spots is similar. Tranexamic acid acts on plasminogens, ultimately reducing inflammatory mediators. It turns out that inflammatory cells are more abundant at the site of an age spot than at normal skin.
In a study in 2008, it was found that tranexamic acid improved the pigmentation in 20 subjects with melasma (80%) and 6 subjects (75%) with freckles over a 5 to 18 week period. The researchers claimed that it also prevented the appearance of new pigment spots and freckles. Ultimately, they concluded that it requires at least two months of topical application to see results.
That was certainly my experience with E'shee Serum Intensive Brightening. I used it for three months in the evenings. I have been targeting some freckles (I have millions to choose from) and a leopard spot that I have had most of my adult life. I can see a marked difference and there has been no darkening of them, despite the summer sunshine. The fading is noticeable, but it has to be said that it is subtle. This is fine by me as I realize that dark spots are very hard to treat safely and I believe that a patient and diligent application for a year is probably what's needed. I'm up for that. At least this skin lightener- unlike most others- seems to have the potential to make that worthwhile.
Like most of E'shee's products, this comes in a diminutive 0.34fl oz bottle. However, based on how little has been used, careful targeting where needed will allow me to use it for a good 9 months, perhaps even a year.
The concise ingredient list includes ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which is said to work synergistically with tranexamic acid. Although I recommend this product for its effectiveness and for the fact that it did not irritate my sensitive skin, I would prefer it not contain the irritant propylene glycol and the possible carcinogen linalool.

I am almost through with the bottle, using 2x a day just on my biggest hyperpigmentation spots, and I have to say I'm disappointed. I should clarify that these spots seem especially tough to tackle- I did a series of 4 IPL treatments, and not even that faded them as much as I'd like (though they did get considerably lighter).
But in the months (2-3) I've been using it, I don't think I've seen a noticable difference in their darkness. And maybe I'll just have to accept that nothing, apart from maybe heavy duty resurfacing, will lighten them as much as I'd like.

I am SO impressed by this brightening serum which lasts forever (I'm 5 months in, doing spot treatments on pigmentation around my face) and it's only 1/4 gone.
I have been fairly regimented in using this every night on various patches of pigmentation on my face and despite a very sunny and hot UK summer, most of my age spots have lightened considerably. I have a patch of pigmentation (melasma?) which has improved considerably and some pigmented raised patches on my cheek which have shown the most improvement, being significantly lighter. Dark freckles are taking longer to shift/are not working - time will tell.
I think now that there's less sunshine around, I'm going to start seeing some really good results with this. I should say that I do also use lumixyl on the same spots but I am lousy at using LED which I am sure would speed things.

Hi Sandra
I would think that the regimen you propose could workl. I am a big believer that there are no silver bullets and that the different actives in Lumixyl and E'shee could be helpful. For more vitamin C ideas, see our Five Best vitamin C of 2012:

Although I have not used this product I was intrigued by the review. I currently use the Lumixyl system for my hyperpigmentation and it has seemed to keep it at bay (even so far this summer). I have also been using E'Shee vitamin C serum in the evenings (like that as well but would like to try other products..maybe Snowberry Bright Defense Face Serum-comments? Suggestions?).
I thought this E'Shee product might help with some of my more stubborn hyper pigmentation spots.
So...what are your thoughts on this product working with the Lumixyl system?
What about other vitamin C serums? Options for daytime moisturizers? Trying to put a somewhat (ha!) simple skin care regimen at 39 and I see so many things I would like to try but would love some input to narrow down my options right now.
