TIA Review by Marta:
We got over our natural cynicism here at Truth In Aging a few years back and gave Kenneth Mark MD Antioxidant Hydrating Cream with Astaxanthin a positive review. While we couldn’t help but notice and be a little snarky about Dr Mark’s tendency to (still, today) practice in only the toniest of neighborhoods (think Aspen and the Hamptons), he also still makes a really excellent Antioxidant Hydrating Cream with Astaxanthin.
For the past six weeks or so, I have been testing Kenneth Mark MD Antioxidant Hydrating Cream with Astaxanthin and can highly recommend it. It is such a good feeling to reunited with a good discovery from 2009 and find that it has more than stood the test of time.
Regular readers of Truth In Aging will know that astaxanthin is a personal favorite of mine. (I am predicting – hoping – that we’ll much more of it in 2014). It deserves wider acclaim because, according to one scientist, astaxanthin can eliminate free radicals 6,000 times more effectively than vitamin C, 800 times more than CoQ10, 550 times more than vitamin E and green tea, 75 times more than alpha lipoic acid, and 20 times more than beta-carotene. It may also reduce melanin by 40 percent, greatly reducing freckles and age spots.
Even if Kenneth Mark MD Antioxidant Hydrating Cream with Astaxanthin does put some of those classic antioxidants in the shade, astaxanthin is backed up in Dr Mark’s formula by vitamin E, two forms of C and vitamin A. The anti-aging hit list just keeps on going with too many great ingredients to do justice to. I’ll confine myself to giving a call out to superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that overpowers the damaging reactions of superoxide (the most common free radical in the body) toxicity; it has the fastest turnover number of any known enzyme.
Then there are plenty of mineral peptides, including copper (a known wound healer), zinc, iron and magnesium. In the ingredients list, they appear as Saccharomyces Copper Ferment and so on. This means that the minerals have been converted by a yeast called Saccharomyces cerevisiae into a bioavailable, low molecular weight glycopeptide that can more easily be absorbed by the skin. These "mineral" elements diminish free radical, oxidative stress.
This is a fabulous formula (although I do note the parabens and some of the other usual suspects amongst the preservatives) that has had a visible effect on wrinkles, deeper forehead lines and sun spots. It comes in a reasonable 1.7oz bottle and in the form of a light lotion. I should share that I had a couple of breakouts and a little inflamed redness during the first week or so and think that Kenneth Mark MD Antioxidant Hydrating Cream with Astaxanthin may have been the culprit. So I eased myself into using it (every other day and building up to daily) and all was well. Those with sensitive skin (and that would be me) should take note. Nonetheless, Dr Mark’s serum and I are now very well suited and it will become a regular part of my regimen.
I just love being able to kick off 2014 with such a great recommendation for an effective anti-aging serum like Kenneth Mark MD Antioxidant Hydrating Cream with Astaxanthin.

maybe i need to wait longer, but after a month i can't really say one way or another if this cream is doing anything at all. my skin does feel nice and it is possible that it's helping to lighten some dark spots from recent acne breakouts i had. beyond that though- i don't have a lot to say and it's an expensive cream to use if you want more obvious results and bang for your buck.
