TIA Review by Emily:
I was thrilled to have the chance to test and review La Vie Celeste Day and Night Restorative Face Cream with R-Lipoic Acid. The timing couldn’t have been better: I started using it just about four weeks ago, as summer weather turned to fall and I realized that the policy of benign neglect that I’d practiced through July and August (just serums, along with heavy and sometimes pore-clogging sunscreen, etc.) would be woefully inadequate as the days shortened and humidity plummeted. I knew I needed a moisturizer I could use daily and didn’t really want to spend a small fortune on the cream my dermatologist sells. I am entirely pleased with my experience and congratulate TIA on having made yet another wonderful discovery: a terrific, well-priced line that does what it says.

I was not expecting too much of the day/night cream when I first used it. The texture is almost surprisingly light and it absorbs with a smooth, matte finish. I guess I’d been accustomed to creams that leave a bit more “moisture” on the skin. But it worked flawlessly under makeup and after a couple of weeks of morning-and-night use, I was very happy with how smooth, healthy, and well-hydrated my face seemed.

I should also point out that about a week or so in, I took advantage of the TIA Shop’s special offer on the glycolic mask and eye cream, and added both to the mix. Not surprisingly, the products worked even better in concert: minimized pores, good tone and texture, and neither flakiness nor break-outs. I am a particular fan of the mask, but the eye cream is also a very good product, though I do alternate it with TIA’s favorite, the sainted and unequaled Your Best Face Correct eye serum. But I’m sufficiently impressed with La Vie Celeste that I am planning to try both the exfoliating cleanser and toner reviewed by TIA a few weeks ago.

As the weather gets colder and drier this winter, I can imagine I’ll want to use something a bit richer at least occasionally as a night cream. But I’m 55, and my skin is dry to begin with. La Vie Celeste’s Day and Night Cream will remain part of my arsenal and I know I will continue to rely on it as an everyday solution. It’s great to find an effective product at a sane price point that delivers on all counts.

Our Take...

This has been my least favorite LCV product, but it's not so much that there's anything wrong with it just that it doesn't wow. Despite being the lighter of the two moisturizers it has a heavier feeling, though it does sink in, I just prefer a lighter texture. It can be a little hard to spread but I apply it right after toner so my skin is still a little damp and that does help. It moisturizes and sinks in well but I haven't really seen any other skin improvements.

This cream is a pretty good fit for those with combination skin like me. My skin is shiny with large pores on my nose and forehead but pretty thirsty everywhere else. You don't have to use very much to cover the entire face (I mistakenly kept applying too much when I first bought it; my second tub is lasting much longer). This cream isn't as emollient as many moisturizers that I've tried, and the non-smell might be off-putting to some (it reminded me of vegetable shortening or something), but adding a drop or two of jojoba and lavender oil helped with both of these things.

I haven't found that this has shrunk my large pores, and it hasn't reversed the few fine lines that I have, but I'm using it more for prevention, which I think is appropriate for my skin's condition and my age (early 30's). I think people with very dry skin might prefer something heavier, but overall I found this to be a great everyday moisturizer that helped balance my skin. I imagine I'll try other creams on occasion because I like to experiment, but I'll always come back to this one!

I had been eyeing this cream for a while and when I ran out of the moisturizer I had been using at night, I finally took the plunge. I felt that I needed something that was a bit more moisturizing as winter is drying out my already dry skin. When I first started using this product, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the consistency of it. But as I continued to use it, it is quickly becoming a favorite. Normally for the day time, I use my Pai Chamomile and Rosehip Calming Day Cream, which will always be a favorite of mine. But I have to admit that I have started reaching for this one both day and night. It feels very hydrating for my skin and gives me the perfect amount of moisture without being greasy or too heavy.

I like that it's a single product for day and night use; its texture is just right ... not too heavy, not too greasy, but simultaneously feels like it's actually doing something; didn't cause break-outs; just left my face calm, hydrated, plumped-up, fresh and pretty

I LOVE this product! I'm from Wisconsin and right before the winter months my skin would get so dry.. but not since using this facial cream - it's awesome. Don't like being without it. I use it all year long.

Since my husband now works in a high end department store he is constantly given samples of some very expensive high end named brand products to try. None of them come close to the simplicity and effectiveness of this cream. I hate anything I can feel on my skin for more than a minute. Within a minute I can touch my skin and it's as though nothing has been put on. Let me tell you, not to mention names but from a product that begins with Lem, and another product that has a hypen II in it, LVC is far superior in results let alone the price point. I read above that some people broke out, never happened to me. But the good thing about this line is the limited use of highly effective ingredients helps you determine what you may be having a reaction to.

  • Hi Anais: I am very sorry that the cream did not work out for you. While we have had very few reports of it breaking anyone out (or irritation), everyone is different and each person might have sensitizers which are unique to them. Just as with almost anything, skin care is a very subjective experience and some can be more sensitive towards an ingredient (s) than another.

I was surprised to hear your comments concerning the consistency. While this cream does have a matte finish, it is very creamy and I would say on the thicker side as opposed to a lotion which is much more watery and would pour out of the jar if you were to turn it upside down. It is a day and night cream, so I did not formulate it as thick as some other "night" creams because many could find that too rich for day time usage, particularly those who are not terribly dry. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any other questions or concerns.

I do appreciate your comments and hope you do find something that agrees with your skin more...very best, Teri/La Vie Celeste

I really wanted to like this product because the ingredients are so good, but it really didn't work for me. I break out when I use it regularly. Also, sometimes it can leave my skin slightly irritated upon application, and then it quickly returns to normal. Also, it doesn't feel thick like a creamy night cream. It feels more like a lotion. I'm not crazy about the consistency.

  • I love this cream. It's the perfect weight, rich enough to moisturize but without feeling at all greasy. It feels totally calming and refreshing on my skin. It smells very mild, hard to describe, but fresh and natural. Every now and then, my body really says "yes!" to a product, and this is one of them for me.

I use it all over my face and neck, morning and night. I'll buy more when I run out.

  • I really do have dry skin... even worse earlier this year i had shingles on my neck, and after that all cleared up it left my skin was very very dry. I tried everything...Most products made me break out, and smelled like i was going out with the ladies for a night of bingo (i'm only 28). I was introduced to this product by a friend who was also tired of looking at my dry zombie looking patch on my neck. It worked. It didn't have some horrible scent, also didn't feel like having jelly smeared on my neck and face. It really did work after the first time i used it, and my skin keeps getting better every day i use it. When i run out i plan on getting more.

  • Hi Lucy...I am sorry that the cream didnt' work for you. While this product is unlikely to cause breakouts, we realize that everyone is different, and any cream, regardless of the manufacturer, can potentially cause a reation in some people. I do want to assure you that we have checked our inventory at our office, and also with our chemist at his facility, and there is absolutely no evidence of product separation in the face cream. Our chemist is highly regarded in his field and the utmost care is taken in formulating the La Vie Celeste products. I do wish you the best in finding a face cream that works for you...Best, Teri / La Vie Celeste.

I am a face cream junkie-tired everything and recently had a procedure done similar to fraxel for sun damage,my face was on fire after this procedure and nothing would calm it down but LA VIE CELESTE face cream.I tried Oily of Olay,Estee Lauder,Ciinique,,Lancome and anything I could grab since I was in such discomfort, washed all of them off and scraped the remains of the jar of La Vie Celeste Day and Night face cream and immediately it calmed my skin so I was able to sleep. This was the end of the jar and the consistency was perfect The next day it was soft and healing beautifully.
Needless to say, I have always kept it stocked and think this line is fabulous.I have sensitive skin and most creams irritate it and believe me I have tried them all.

Broke out while on this product so I had to stop using it. The consistency wasn't very smooth either- it seemed like the water and oil phase were on the verge of separating. However, when applied to the skin, it was smooth and thick.

Hi L, see Marta's post and read thru the comments. It's recommended that you leave it on for 5 minutes but that depends on how sensitive your skin is? Marta says she left it on for an hour and I questioned if one could leave it on all night. I'll be buying the Try Me Kit this weekend (20% & Free shipping SALE) so that I can give it a go too! Let us all know how you like it! http://truthinaging.com/body/la-vie-celestes-glycolic-mask-reviewed-and-recommended
