Medik8 CE-Tetra is a highly stable and potent vitamin C serum for people who want to combat sun-induced skin damage, as well as improve skin’s texture and tone. This serum, specially designed for men and women in their 40s and onwards, protects against free radicals and stimulates synthesis of new collagen and elastin while preventing other signs of premature aging. Medik8 CE-Tetra contains lipid soluble Vitamin C for enhanced penetration and stability and vitamin E which reinforces the effect of antioxidants. In order to make sure this product provides the efficacy and results it promises, Truth In Aging has tested and reviewed Medik8 CE-Tetra, to ensure that you get a powerful serum that will smooth and firm your skin. Medik8 CE-Tetra utilizes tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a potent, gentle and non-drying form of vitamin C, to stimulate the skin and produce natural moisturizers, glycosaminoglycans, which allow skin to absorb moisture from the body itself. Vitamin E works to rectify sun-damaged skin and hyperpigmentation, leaving you with a refreshed and rejuvenated complexion.

Directions:
In the morning, after cleansing, apply 3-4 drops directly to the skin and blend evenly across the whole facial area, neck and décolleté. Alternatively, place a drop on your finger and massage into the skin. Leave to absorb for 2-3 minutes. Suitable for dry, normal or redness-prone skin.

TIA Review by Marta:
A few years ago, you would have been likely to find me a bit negative on vitamin C – too drying, often irritating, usually not much effect. Recently though, I have become a convert by finding well-formulated vitamin C serums that use stable, potent and gentle actives. Medik8 CE-Tetra joins them as a new favorite.

This pared back formula has vitamins C and E and that’s about it. What makes Medik8’s vitamin C serum a standout is that it has a 7% concentration of tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. This form of vitamin C rates as potent, gentle and non-drying. It is stable, can be used in lower concentrations than some other forms of vitamin C and apparently also has the ability to stimulate the skin to produce glycosaminoglycans, natural moisturizers that allow skin to absorb moisture from the body itself.

Although the research behind tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate tells a good story, I haven’t found any to be independent. A study published in Dermatologic Surgery said that it "penetrates directly into the epidermis and dermis, acting both as an antioxidant and a direct stimulant of new collagen" was conducted by a company manufacturing the ingredient. Another by SkinMedica claimed it can provide five times greater penetration into keratinocytes and five times greater collagen production than ascorbic acid.

The proof, as they say, is in the using and I found CE-Tetra – which, of course, also has vitamin E – to be very effective, especially at taking down rough sun-damaged skin. I’ve been using it daily on my neck (Arcona’s The Solution Pads for exfoliating at night a couple of times a week) and feel that I am truly winning the battle. I should also mention that the jojoba oil base sinks right in. The unwanted (in my case) silicones give the serum additional slip and superficial silkiness. In any case, I bought a bottle as soon as I finished my tester.

I bought a backup of this, but I'm having a bit of buyer's remorse now. I like the serum, especially as it doesn't oxidize, but I'm not sure I'm seeing the results I want. I've been using some form of vitamin c serum for a long time though, so maybe I'm expecting too much. I have a big hyperpigmentation spot on my left cheek (the one the sun hits when I'm driving) and I didn't see any noticeable fading of it. But truthfully it's a stubborn one, even IPL faded it only a certain amount, and then it ended up getting darker again (even with daily sunscreen usage).
Texture is nice, it sinks in quickly, doesn't sting and doesn't oxidize, all pluses. Will continue to use until both bottles are gone, then will look around at what else is out there.

After two weeks of use, I realized the fine lines that have appeared under my eyes had disappeared. Within another week, I noticed the smile lines from my nose to mouth no longer appeared as deep. I’m very impressed with the results on lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately, it has not done as much to decrease the redness and to lighten the spots as I had hoped. Overall, if you are looking to reduce lines and wrinkles, I would highly recommend this product.

After using Medik8 CE-Tetra daily on the right side of my face for two weeks, I saw my regular aesthetician who remarked that the pores looked smaller and the right side looked lifted. It was VERY SUBTLE. After all, it was only two weeks. But that was exactly what I was seeing, too! The right side was slightly firmer, smoother and tighter. I had no irritation and the changes were enough to encourage me to continue for a couple more weeks.

At four weeks, I'm now near the bottom of my sample bottle of Medik8 CE-Tetra. The results are not so subtle anymore. The right side of my face is smoother, firmer and the pores are smaller. I even decided to stop using this product for three days to see if the results were permanent or just an effect of the serum on my skin. The results are real. If I had to quantify it, I’d say the four weeks of using it have turned the clock back five years for me.

I received the CE Tetra free with the Medik* Firewall purchase and I was skeptical about C serums. A couple years back I had used some recommended to me by the spa I was going to and it was terrible. My skin was just too sensitive for it. I wanted to give it another try with the Medik8 and see if it was any different because of all the postings about C serums being so good for your skin. I was very pleased with the application and the fresh citrus scent. It made my face very smooth and as the reviewer said it paired very well with the Medik8 Firewall. I will definitely purchase this again. Very happy with the results. My skin is looking brighter and just knowing I don't have any problems with it lets me know it is good for sensitive skin.

  • Weeks before the summer solstice arrived regaling the season of longer days and teeming warmth, I found aromatic citrus “liquid gold” and became highly “Medik8d.” I have lavished my skin with a topical age-erasing protocol that has worked well on my vintage baby boomer skin… enough to make me fall in love with vitamin C all over again. Enter the Medik8 CE-Tetra Pro-Collagen Synthesis Super Antioxidant Serum ($140 in the shop), the British skincare “Green Cosmeceutical” brand. This highly stable groundbreaking formula contains a new 7% vitamin C derivative and natural vitamin E. To me, it works better and I prefer it over my other more expensive CE ferulic acid vitamin C serums.

I found this product to be unique in that it totally melts right into your skin, plumping and brightening – without feeling heavy or harsh. So many other vitamin C serums I have used irritate my sensitive skin, burn on contact and case breakouts – both acne blemishes and milia (those pesky deep seeded white bumps that form when skin cells become trapped rather than exfoliate naturally). In the beginning I have an all-out passionate love affair with the newest vitamin C serum on the block, and then about a week or two in my skin misbehaves and it takes several more weeks to heal, clear and feel normal again. Although it does have a distinct pleasant and invigorating citrus scent, the fragrance-producing oils are natural (jojoba and grapefruit seed) and disappear seconds after application leaving no telltale perfumy trail.

I have been using the CE-Tetra serum every morning as part of my serum prepping routine. It pairs well with Medik8 Growth Factor serum ($185 in the shop), which I am totally enamored with after using the entire sample within the recent Discover with Marta summer kit. CE-Tetra layers very well as a supple and smooth primer underneath my makeup. It is suitable for use on all skin types and is especially gentle for the most sensitive. Contained in a glass bottle with an eye dropper applicator, the 1-ounce size should last about three months or longer, using it once a day. Only two to three drops are needed, and I have used just over a fourth of the bottle within a month’s time.

Not only do I need to prevent any further superficial and deeper damage to my skin, but I most certainly need to correct and repair the existing damage and stave off the progressive intrinsic normal skin aging process for as long as possible. Professional strength serums that really “mean business” are a non-negotiable necessity at this stage of my skin’s life. CE-Tetra is hands down a welcome addition to my series of serums and one that will likely become a permanent member and step in my regime. It will more than likely replace my small army of other professional strength vitamin C serums, as it outranks with its ingredients, paraben-free quality, feel and all- around performance. It now tops my list of skincare standouts, and Medik8’s line really has my attention and calls for further exploration.
